Players will be able to claim two free games next week, with Arkane Studios’ sci-fi immersive sim Prey and Thunder Lotus Games’ action-adventure title Jotun: Valhalla Edition going free on the platform.

In Prey, players awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2035. A key subject of an experiment, players need to maneuver and survive the station, which is overrun by an alien species called the Typhon, all the while finding a way to escape Talos 1.

Jotun: Valhalla Edition is a hand-drawn action-adventure game set in Norse Mythology, where players control Thora, a Viking who died a dishonorable death and must prove their worth to the gods by slaying five Jotun elementals. The game features nine vast levels filled with Viking mythology and authentic Icelandic voice-overs.

Both games will be free for anyone with an Epic Games Store account starting May 12, and will be available to claim until May 19.

Thunder Lotus has announced that Spiritfarer has now sold over 1 million copies worldwide across all platforms. At last count, the game’s sales had crossed 500,000 units in April of this year.

Fittingly, this announcement also goes hand-in-hand with the launch of Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition. Essentially, the subtitle has been bolted onto the game, because it has now received its final free content update. Called the Jackie and Daria Update, it adds two new spirits, a new event, a new location, and new boat buildings and resources.

“All good things must come to an end. And Spiritfarer has been especially good for Thunder Lotus,” said creative director Nicolas Guérin. “For our work to be welcomed into the lives of so many people is especially gratifying, particularly given how much heart we tried to invest in the game. It was a challenging project, but telling these stories truly helped us grow as developers. We’d like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all our fans for their support and for helping us reach this special milestone!”

Spiritfarer is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia.

Spiritfarer originally released in August 2020 to strong critical acclaim. It’s received a number of updates ever since, adding new Spirits like Lily and Beverly along with new story content for Stella, quality of life improvements, and improved co-op. This is in additions to new buildings, recipes, collectibles and much more.

Having sold 500,000 units as of April 2021, it remains to be seen if Thunder Lotus will release any more content updates for Spiritfarer since Jackie and Daria is the last on its post-launch roadmap. Time will tell so stay tuned for more details. The game is currently available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Google Stadia and Nintendo Switch.

Several new features have also been added including the Archive Room for check out treasure maps or Acetates and Buck’s Lottery Littery Reviews which provide quests to earn treasure maps. There’s also a new Save system which provides up to three slots. If you’re in the mood to relax, then hang out in the Lounge – it now has a radio for listening to available songs from the soundtrack.

Along with new Spicy Foods – like Laska, Chai Latte and Dakgangjeong – quality of life changes like keeping track of materials needed from the Captain’s Log and a Destination Queue have been added. Thunder Lotus Games’ Spiritfarer has received a new content update, “Lily”, the first of three planned for this year. It adds Lily the Butterfly Spirit, Stella’s sister, along with new scenes and details on the latter’s story. There are also improvements for local co-op and the usual bug fixes. Though meant to be a smaller update, Lily provides fans with more details into who Stella really is and her ultimate goal. The developer also confirmed that the spiritual management title has crossed 500,000 sales worldwide since release. Creative director Nicolas Guerin said on Thunder Lotus’s official website that, “The 500,000 units milestone is huge for us, and felt like a fitting time to add Lily—meanwhile, we’re putting the finishing touches on the more gameplay-heavy updates to come. Stay tuned!”

Spiritfarer is out now for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch and Stadia. Future updates will add additional spirits, new buildings and a new island to explore. The second major update is slated for this Summer while the third arrives in Fall. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Stella will also be getting more story content, manifesting in the form of memories. In Summer, Beverly joins the crew along with new boat buildings, the Archive Room and Acetate Sheets as collectibles and new recipes. Even more quality of life improvements will be added as well.

Fall is when Jackie and Daria, two new spirits, join in and there will also be a new island to explore. A new event, new boat buildings and resources are also on the menu. Among the many sudden launches at the recent Nintendo Indie World Showcase was Thunder Lotus’ Spiritfarer. The mystical management game is out now for the Switch and will be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC today. It will retail for $29.99 and also be available for Xbox Game Pass for Console and PC.

Spiritfarer is about Stella, who ferries spirits into the afterlife while also taking care of them on her boat. Throughout the adventure, players will cook, befriend different spirits, mine, harvest and so on before saying goodbye. Stella is joined by Daffodil, who can also serve as a second player in co-op.

As you journey forth, the boat can be customized to your liking. Different activities and ways to spend time with the different spirits will lead to emotional moments and long-lasting memories. Thunder Lotus Games is known for the action-packed Sundered but also has some more contemplative games like Jotun. Its latest title Spiritfarer is much more of the latter as players controller Stella, who ferries deceased spirits into the afterlife. As a Spiritfarer, you befriend various spirits and embark on different tasks like mining, cooking, fishing and crafting to keep the journey going. You’ll bond with different passengers and learn more about their stories. Ultimately though, you’ll need to see them leave which can be heart-breaking in its own right.

The game even supports co-op with a second player controlling Daffodil the cat and assisting with different puzzles. All in all, if you’re looking for a laid back, cozy experience that’s focused on story-telling, then Spiritfarer may be worth keeping an eye on. It’s out in 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch, and will also be coming to Xbox Game Pass for PC and console.

When Epic Games launched their Epic Games Store at the end of 2018, most people probably weren’t expecting it be the firestorm of controversy that it ultimately became. Many people also probably didn’t expect the storefront to give away so many free games. While it was originally announced to be a bi-weekly giveaway, it turned into a weekly one, with even daily ones during certain holidays. While nothing has been officially announced for 2020 plans, it seems for now they are still giving away free titles every week, and this week is a real unique one.

Sundered is free now to all those who are registered on the Epic Games Store. The game is a rouge-lite side scroller with heavy inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, and uses some gorgeous hand-drawn artwork. This will be the Eldritch Edition, which includes the Magnate of the Gong update that added new material as well as 4 player co-op.

Sundered: Eldritch Edition is available for free on the store until January 16th. After that, Horace will be the next game in rotation.

Fresh off of the triple whammy served in last week’s free games, the Epic Games Store has announced its next free title. It’s Thunder Lotus Games’ Sundered: Eldritch Edition, and it goes live on January 9th. If you haven’t claimed Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition and Steep yet, now is the time to do so.

Sundered is a Metroidvania title with randomized areas and a gorgeous animated art-style. Players control Eshe, who is trapped in a strange labyrinth filled with nightmarish monsters. Even as she harnesses different Eldritch artifacts to become stronger, there’s a sinister presence that’s seemingly taking over her soul.

Those picking up the Eldritch Edition will also avail of free local co-op multiplayer, new areas, and a new boss fight. Sundered might not quite compare to the likes of Hollow Knight or Axiom Verge in terms of overall quality, but it’s still a compelling, action-packed adventure with incredible scale that’s worth checking out when it goes free this Friday.
