Snake? Snake? Snaaaake!

Konami and Kojima Productions showcased a new demo and trailer for Metal Gear Rising Revengeance at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. But some of the questions on people’s minds had been left unanswered. For instance, in the wake of a supposed second playable character, many wondered whether Rose, Raiden’s wife, would see an appearance.

However, while handing out pamphlets, a few more details were revealed regarding the story and characters appearing. Sunny, Olga’s daughter from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, who was a part of the Patriots’ plan to coerce Olga into helping Raiden, seems to be making an appearance. However, her appearance in Revengeance hasn’t been shown (simply indicated with a silhouette).

The game is also set in the year 2018, four years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Kojima has already confirmed that Snake won’t be making an appearance, but then, it is Kojima. Who, by the way, posted these via his Twitter feed.

Team Ninja leader talks about the concept for Yaiba came about, along with delivering a different kind of undead experience.

At TGS 2012, Keiji Inafune along with Team Ninja announced Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, an offshoot of the Ninja Gaiden series that combines a cybernetically enhanced ninja smashing through hordes of the undead on the way to revenge. But how did the game come about?

Speaking to Siliconera, Team Ninja leader Yosuke Hayashi stated, “We started meeting with Spark Unlimited for Yaiba through Comcept. From a different route, they came up with a concept for a Ninja Gaiden game on their own and presented it to us.

“We knew they were that passionate about Team Ninja and Ninja Gaiden. When Inafune-san and Comcept said we’re going to work on stuff we knew of them and they were interested in making a Ninja Gaiden game. We felt if they were that passionate about it and we can probably trust them. Now, we’ve met with them and feel the three parties are one team.”

There’s a specific kind of experience within Yaiba that feels opposed to the typical portrayal of zombies and ninjas. As Hayashi states, “Zombies are a creation of the West. We feel we can bring the authentic ninja-ness, and by teaming with Spark Unlimited, they can bring the authentic zombie-ness. When we come together we can make a really unique zombie experience.”

Create your own offense in Capcom's upcoming memory hunting action game.

Capcom stepped up the hype for the upcoming Remember Me by showcasing the Combo Lab at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. This essentially shows the various combos you can create and their effects on enemies.

And gosh darn if protagonist Nilin doesn’t look good pulling off those combos. The game appears fetching, and shows off an interesting style of combat that thankfully doesn’t rip off Assassin’s Creed or Batman Arkham City. How well it’ll fit with the stealth based play remains to be seen, but Remember Me is slowly and steadily building itself up.

Capcom has released the Tokyo Game Show 2012 trailer for Okami HD and it looks spectacular. The game is exclusive to the PS3, or rather the HD remaster is exclusive to the PS3, and will be released in November in Japan.

The game still looks gorgeous which is a testament to the art design, and signifies that technical proficiency isn’t everything. Games can still look good on any platforms. That said, this HD remaster looks like a competent piece of work.

Looks stunning.

Monster Hunter 4 on the 3DS looks quite good, and after being announced for the system last year, it’s set to finally release next year exclusively for the 3DS. The trailer shows new monsters, environments and a lot of action.

It’s the classic Monster Hunter gameplay you know, and it is set to be the same on the 3DS. There obviously should be more improvements considering it’s a mainline Monster Hunter game, but there’s still a lot of time left before the game comes out.

Keiji Inafune officially revealed “Yaiba” as Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, a collaboration between Spark Unlimited and Team Ninja at TGS 2012. They’ve just revealed a new trailer for the same, which ramps up the mecha ninja slashing undead monsters action gameplay we fell for in the first place. Plus the connection to Ninja Gaiden is revealed, and well, in a word, “awesome”.

It’ll be interesting to see how Inafune and Team Ninja pull this off (especially since the latter is coming off the failure of Ninja Gaiden 3). But hey, it looks more fun than Resident Evil 6 (double zing!).

Spark Unlimited joins with Team Ninja for this insane zombie actioner.

Can miracles happen? Apparently so. Keiji Inafune’s Yaiba, which was announced with relatively no details attached to it, save a teaser trailer that showed the game’s mechanised, zombie murdering, ninja mayhem. Coming from the creator of Resident Evil, we were stoked to say the least.

While Team Ninja hasn’t been hitting all the right notes on the action platforming front – Ninja Gaiden 3 was nothing short of a disaster – under Inafune’s guidance, they should be able to pull through as Yaiba was officially revealed the Tokyo Game Show 2012 as “Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z”.

What more could be said? As of now, the connection between the titles is unknown though we’re guessing this could be a bizzare, trippy spin-off. But there’s no denying the pedigree on hand here. How Team Ninja and Inafune ultimately deliver remains to be seen though. At least it looks far more interesting and fun than Resident Evil 6 (zing!).

And the puppet art style looks simply phenomenal.

Sony is on an avant garde path of game design as of late, as SCE Japan’s Puppeteer shows. The new trailer at TGS 2012 gave us a bit more information on the antagonist of the game, an evil king who looks popping puppets as much as flopping around on strings.

Enough can’t be said about the puppet theatre art style. The scissors gameplay was also showcased, along with the rote platforming and a heaping of story cutscenes. The entire game looks to be coming together well, and one could only hope that it releases soon enough.

The house – or houses – that Dynasty Warriors and Dead or Alive built is heading to TGS in full force. Tecmo Koei Europe has announced its lineup of playable demos for this year’s Tokyo Game Show, and it looks to be an interesting mix of DOA and a bunch of other titles you might care about.

This will include Dead or Alive 5, whose full version will be available for play with developer Team Ninja available for interviews. The game has generated quite a bit of hype, in no small measure thanks to members of the Virtua Fighter cast also being playable in the game. Then again, this is the first DOA without Itagaki at the helm.

Other titles like Dynasty Warriors 7 Empires, Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 and Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper will all available as demos.

The Tecmo Koei booth will be located in the 2nd Hall, Booth #2-N1. It will be open from September 20th till 23rd.

GREE’s exhibit this year, which includes more than 30 titles, is themed on the evolution of social gaming. The increasing technological sophistication of smartphones has driven the diversification of social games across a wide variety of genres, as well as the emergence of new genres, such as action RPGs and third-party shooters, that were once only possible on gaming consoles. The GREE booth will feature playable demos of social games in a range of genres, from GREE’s own in-house games to games by third-party developers. Details of the game lineup are provided below.
