There will be details on Microsoft Flight Simulator, Minecraft and so on.

With the Xbox Series X slated to arrive in November, it’s somewhat troubling that no details on price or pre-orders has been revealed, much less an exact date. Sony is facing the same issue with the PS5 but a rumored mid-September showcase could fix that. As for Microsoft, it also has a rumored event and a Tokyo Game Show showcase to fall back on.

Except not really. While the jury is still out on the rumored showcase, which will apparently have details on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the company has confirmed on Twitter that there will be “no new next-gen news” at TGS 2020. Instead, the focus will be on updates for Microsoft Flight Simulator, the Japanese Minecraft community and “celebrating” Japanese creators and titles.

This news isn’t too surprising and honestly fuels rumors of pre-TGS showcase all the more. Once again, however, we’ll need to wait for official confirmation so don’t get those hopes up. Tokyo Game Show 2020 is slated to take place online from September 24th to 27th.

Microsoft would reveal more about both consoles before its TGS 2020 showcase.

The schedule for Tokyo Game Show 2020, which will be happening online this year, has been revealed and surprisingly, Microsoft will be kicking it off with an Xbox showcase. However, it seems that more details on the Xbox Series X and long-rumored Xbox Series S could be coming sooner. According to industry insider Klobrille, “relevant” Xbox news would be coming earlier.

A later tweet then stated “Xbox Series X|S” which could indicate details on both consoles. Take this with a grain of salt, as usual, but Klobrille’s track record has been fairly good as of late. Back in July, they correctly reported that Fable would be revealed with an in-engine trailer rather than having a gameplay demo.

Details on the Xbox Series S hardware have been rumored and leaked over the past few months with the latest stating that its GPU has 20 CUs running at 1.55 GHz. Meanwhile, Microsoft has already confirmed that the Xbox Series X will release in November but hasn’t provided a date. Rumors peg it for an early November launch but perhaps an official date will be coming soon. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

The trailer that was originally scheduled for August has been pushed back.

When Capcom unveiled Resident Evil Village in June, they said that they’d be sharing another update on the game in August, and subsequent reports had suggested that those plans were still on track. Well, August is over, and for those of you who’re wondering why the survival horror game didn’t show up, Capcom have an answer for you.

Taking to Twitter, the company confirmed that it will be bringing Resident Evil Village to the Tokyo Game Show 2020, which will run from September 23rd to 27th. In its tweet, Capcom also confirms that the update due in August was delayed, implying that it will now be the centerpiece of their TGS showing. Resident Evil has historically had a major presence at TGS most years over roughly the last couple of decades, so this doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

Recently, Square Enix also confirmed their presence at the show, with games such as Babylon’s Fall, Balan Wonderworld, Marvel’s Avengers, and more included in their lineup. Read more on that through here.

Meanwhile, Resident Evil Village has been the subject of many alleged leaks of late- in that, not much has changed since before the game was officially announced. From its bosses and enemies to its early story beats and prologue to playable characters, details on quite a few things have emerged in recent weeks. Read about it all through the links, but beware of spoilers.

Resident Evil Village is due out for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC some time in 2021. Hopefully a more specific release date (or window) will be revealed at TGS.

Resident Evil Village will be part of Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online and Capcom's own TGS LIVE 2020!https://t.co/jXTSrLQqkI

We know that gamers were excited to learn more in August so we apologize for the delay. Stay tuned.#REVillage #ResidentEvil

Like many events this year, Tokyo Game Show 2020 will be going fully digital. Square Enix has confirmed its participation and revealed the line-up of games that can be expected. Some of these are fairly recent announcements like Collection of SaGa: Final Fantasy Legend for the Switch and Balan Wonderworld from Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka.

However, it seems that Babylon’s Fall from PlatinumGames is also part of the lineup. The hack and slash title was meant to receive some new details this Summer, the COVID-19 pandemic seems to have affected development. Fortunately, the development team is “working safely from home” and we should get some kind of update later this month.

Other games expected to make an appearance include Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age S – Definitive Edition for PS4, Xbox One and PC along with Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. Check out the full line-up below. Tokyo Game Show 2020 takes place from September 23rd to 27th so stay tuned for more coverage in the coming weeks.

This year’s Tokyo Game Show was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, an online event has been confirmed by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association. Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online will take place from September 23rd to 27th.

Along with major publishers taking part, there will also be indie developers showcasing titles. In a recent press release, the organizers also promised “the release of new titles and services.” This is in addition to round-table discussions and esports tournaments which will be live-streamed. You can catch all of the action and announcements via the Tokyo Game Show channel.

It should be interesting to see what developers in Japan have to present especially since we’re waiting for more details on games like Elden Ring, Babylon’s Fall, Granblue Fantasy: Relink and so on. Expect next-gen consoles, especially the PS5, to have some presence as well (perhaps with the unveiling of the rumored Silent Hill reboot). Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more news and announcements.

Like many other events this year, Tokyo Game Show 2020 has been canceled. In a recent statement, the management team revealed that cancellation was due to the recent COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Though numbers aren’t as high as other developed nations, the situation in Japan “remains unpredictable”.

“Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on a global scale and the situation remains unpredictable in Japan as well, the organizer and the co-organizers have reached this decision after a long consideration to place the utmost priority on the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors and stakeholders. We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation.”

The event was originally slated to take place from September 24th to 27th. Instead of an on-site event, there will now be a digital event instead with more information to come later this month. A livestream with all the major announcements planned or even standalone reveals by participating titles wouldn’t be unexpected.

Tokyo Game Show 2020 is just the latest in several events to be canceled and held online, joining the ranks of GDC 2020, BitSummit and Gamescom 2020. E3 2020 is the one exception since there won’t be an online experience in its place. Plenty of reveals are still slated to take place with the likes of the Summer Game Fest and IGN’s Summer of Gaming so stay tuned.

The event will focus on upcoming new consoles, cloud gaming, 5G technology, and more.

By the time this year’s Tokyo Game Show kicks off in September, both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X will be right around the corner, which means that the event will serve as the perfect stage for both next-gen consoles to take the spotlight and show themselves off. We’ve likely know a great deal more about both consoles than we do right now as it is, but new details will probably be coming in thick and fast at that time.

Almost as if confirming this notion, the CESA (Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association), the organizers of the Tokyo Game Show, recently sent out a press release, stating that this year’s show will be focused on the future of gaming.

“The theme of TGS2020 is ‘The Future Touches Gaming First,'” says the press release (translated by Twinfinite). “Games are the most updated and accessible means to experience the emerging technologies that will unlock new possibilities for the future. With the theme of this year, the event expects to provide an opportunity for people to touch and play the latest games and immerse themselves in the feel of an exciting future that is just around the corner.”

Here is where things get really interesting, with the CESA briefly touching upon what the aforementioned exciting future entails, from “novel game consoles for the next generation”, to “the full-fledged launch of cloud gaming”, ” to “the start of 5G services for commercial use”, and more.

While Microsoft have been fairly open and more talking about the Xbox Series X so far, having already showed its form factor as well, Sony definitely have not. By the time TGS rolls around, Microsoft will already have dropped a lot of next-gen info at E3- but Sony aren’t attending E3, so it’ll be interesting to see how both companies approach TGS.

Meanwhile, in related news, in the last few days, Sony have cancelled their plans for PAX East 2020 and for GDC 2020 back-to-back due to concerns about the coronavirus outbreak.
