2D Boy's puzzle platforming sequel is currently available on Nintendo Switch and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Several months on from its original release, World of Goo 2 is set to open the gates for a larger audience on additional platforms. 2D Boy and Tomorrow Corporation have announced that the sidescrolling puzzle platforming sequel will launch for PS5 later this month, on April 25.

World of Goo 2 will also launch for Steam on PC on the same day. Upon its PC release in August last year, the game was available exclusively via the Epic Games Store. In March, 2D Boy and Tomorrow Corporation announced that that exclusivity would end sometime this spring– now we know exactly when to expect it on Steam, and it’s not too far away.

Via a Steam post, the developers also confirm that they’re set to release a new update for World of Goo 2 that will add three new levels that are “designed especially for the most clever, the most hardcore, the most goo-imbued players,” alongside over 30 new achievements, a new options menu, and more.

The acclaimed 2D puzzle-platformer has been an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC ever since it released in August last year.

World of Goo 2 launched last August, delivering an unexpected yet much welcome follow-up to a beloved indie classic more than a decade and a half after its release. Since launch, developed 2D Boy’s acclaimed sequel has been an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC, though that is going to change soon.

2D Boy and publisher Tomorrow Corporation have announced that World of Goo 2 is coming to Steam sometime this Spring, though a specific release date is currently unknown. The puzzle platformer can be wishlisted on the platform starting now.

Like its predecessor, World of Goo 2 sees players taking control of balls of shape-changing goo, which you are then tasked with using to solve environmental puzzles and platforming challenges. Check out the trailer below, which announces its Steam release and showcases a handful of gameplay glimpses.

The 2D puzzle-platformer will be available for Nintendo Switch and PC (via Epic Games Store and the game's official website).

Coming more than a decade and a half on from the original game’s release, World of Goo 2 isn’t a game many of us expected to ever see. Its announcement at The Game Awards in December was certainly a nice surprise though, and after confirming at the time that the 2D puzzle-platformer would be out sometime in 2024, developers 2D Boy and Tomorrow Corporation have now announced a specific release date.

World of Goo 2 will launch on May 23. Like its predecessor, it will see players “use living liquid creatures to build bridges, grow towers, terraform terrain, and more” in a “beautiful, dangerous, and evolving world”. Check out its newest trailer below for a glimpse of what it will have in store.

Upon its launch, World of Goo 2 will be available on Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux. On PC and Mac, it will be available via the Epic Games Store and the game’s own official website, while Linux players will only be able to get it through the latter.

Designer/artist Kyle Gabler breaks down some of the big changes with the update.

2D Boy’s World of Goo will be the next free game on the Epic Games Store starting tomorrow. This is no simple freebie though – there will also be a free update to remaster the visuals. Designer/artist/composer Kyle Gabler broke down these changes in a recent post.

“To be super clear, there are no new levels, no new characters, no new battle royale deathmatch mode. This is just a gentle remastering we did for fun,” said Gabler. The entire framework for the game has been replaced though, so various PC versions should now work again without any hiccups. Along with a doubled resolution (the original ran at 800×600), World of Goo runs in 16:9 aspect ratio.

Not only was upscaling done, but the team tweaked each image by hand to ensure they fit. Of course, fans can still use the original visuals without problems. Other improvements to the visuals and user interface have also been brought over. Another nice change is that assets and save files are no longer encrypted. “We hope this makes the game more open and friendly to mod,” said Gabler.

Though the update will hit the Epic Games Store version first, players can expect to see it live for all versions within the next week. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Learn a new programming language and execute it across over 60 puzzles.

Just when you thought the Tomorrow Corporation was out of commission, it’s come out of nowhere with a brand new game called 7 Billion Humans. Releasing on August 23rd for Steam, the game is a sequel to Human Resource Machine. Check out the newest trailer below.

If you have played Human Resource Machine, which employed programming commands for its puzzle-solving gameplay, then 7 Billion Humans is somewhat similar, and will probably feel familiar to you. This time around, programming commands are executed by all the workers in a single puzzle, with over 60 puzzles in total to solve. The scale is a lot bigger this time, but it will be possible to skip difficult puzzles or garner hints on what to do.

Given Tomorrow Corporation’s penchant for puzzle games – it developed World of Goo and Little Inferno, along with the aforementioned Human Resource Machine – 7 Billion Humans should be interesting. The real question is whether it can build on its predecessor and offer a more intuitive experience in the process.

The teaser details a world facing a new ice age, and the solution is seemingly to burn everything. Yes, everything. Until there’s nothing left. Which the teaser chillingly alludes to, but nonetheless has us fatally interested.

Of course, we’d expect nothing less from the company that brought us World of Goo.

Little Inferno is due this winter (!) for PC, Mac, Linux and Wii U.
