Even The Witcher 3 is not free from bugs.

This generation of gaming has been a slow evolution. One small step for man, one tiny leap for video games. It becomes abundantly clear as time goes on and our thought process fits into this new groove building into a venomous rut– something we, as gamers should not have to accept. Our beloved games are launching, regularly unfinished. A state of mind that has become ‘normal.’

Drive Club, Halo: Master Chief Collection, and Assassin’s Creed: Unity were last years ‘big hitters.’ Drive Club launched with completely broken online stability; Halo launched with co-op and multiplayer online functionality; Assassin’s Creed launched to what resulted in several gaming bugs including the nightmarish ‘faceless’ characters.

Enter the company that has been honest with the gamers since minute one: CD Projekt Red Studio. The developer who gives the gamers what they are asking for. Tosses in a load of free download content, several pushbacks to their most anticipated title and voila! At last a perfect launch title! The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Though numerous setbacks and countless hours of internal code manipulation didn’t exactly help the game launch to a perfect experience. This goes to show that even an honest, straightforward development team can not always deliver on their promise.

With that being said, here are fifteen of the most downright dirty bugs, glitches and game breaking sequences we have dug up from around the internet.

Disclaimer: Some of these glitches and bugs were caught on video before any major patches were released.

Duplication glitch

All right. So this glitch is not so bad. In fact it might be of some great use to many gamers: Need some money? Sure. We could all use some cold hard cash from time to time (or in my case all the time!). So why not go out, find a Monster Nest and duplicate an endless amount of loot. Loot that can then be collected and turned into money! But be warned: this is probably the friendliest glitch we have listed. Take advantage of it while it is still available.

Glitches That Surprisingly Made Video Games Better

Not all glitches are bad.

Video game glitches are far more common today than they used to be back in the day. Or, it certainly seems like it. Today, what with the internet existing and everything, not only is it possible to ship a glitchy product, and get it into an acceptable state later (see also: DriveClub, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Battlefield 4), but word about these glitches also spreads faster than before.

Really it only takes one small error of coding to work its way into the game during the development process in order for a glitch to become present. These errors just happen by mistake and slip by programmers and the quality assurance testers. Or yes, sometimes, they are products of a rushed or lacking development cycle.

Usually when we spot a glitch it becomes a waiting game for developers to patch and fix the error. This leaves gamers stuck at certain locations, failing textures or a limited amount of time to enjoy an exploit within the particular video game. Very rarely do we see these glitches stick around within the game or ultimately help improve gameplay. Although, on those rare occasions, these glitches that end up in the video game code can sometimes actually spark creativity for future installments. We hunted down some pristine video games that greatly improved gameplay all thanks to these mistakes and glitches, and ended up becoming fixtures of pop culture.

Note: Some videos and images have been used only for representation purposes.

Quake

Do you know that Team Fortress, the popular free-to-play video game by Valve, is the result of a mod glitch in Quake? Or well, the original Team Fortress game is, at least (yes, there was an original Team Fortress, did you just assume they jumped straight to Team Fortress 2? Even Valve isn’t that bad at counting). Three friends decided to mod the game to allow team class-based battles. During the mod, the programmers found a glitch that would change the color of a player’s name to the opposing team’s color. Instead of fixing the glitch, the programmers felt it would be neat to include classes that would act as a spy and take out enemies secretly.

After releasing the mod online, Sierra Entertainment noticed that the game had potential and presented it to Valve Software. Valve Software loved the idea so much they asked the programmers to make a mod of Team Fortress while using the Half-Life engine. Team Fortress went on to become a massive success and two of the original programmers of the 1996 Quake Team Fortress mod still work for Valve Software.

Fantastic effects being implemented in a dull and mundane manner.

With the advancements in technology, we’ve seen all sorts of intriguing and gorgeous graphical improvements making their way to video games. However, we have also seen these fantastic effects being implemented in a dull and mundane manner in certain video game titles.

We could argue that the problem is based around developers trying to do something different and bringing video games more close to the experience of watching a cinematic film but at times the effects are poor and overdone. So what games are guilty of this? Check out the entire list below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below the article.

Note: This list is subjective and is not ranked. Some images and video might be used for representation purposes only.

Fallout 3: Color Filtering

Color filtering is an effect that overlays a particular color shade. The effect can bring in a gloomy overtone or brighten up landscapes but for video games like Fallout 3, it’s a mood killer. Fallout 3 had a color filter that made everything look like a green smog or worst a diluted shade of yellow. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the Fallout series especially Fallout 3. However, this effect wasn’t very appealing which ultimately left a community of video game modders to develop ways to remove the filter completely.

Video game level designers have made gamers venture in all kinds of strange and fascinating lands. From exploring the solar system and checking out new planets, to prowling through dreams and painted worlds and what not; there seems to be no end to the limits that levels can be set in in games.

As much interest as unique and thoughtful worlds may present to us, sometimes it’s the replication of our own planet’s locations that has us enraptured; of course such levels have to be in concordance with the theme of the game. Over the course of time, many a games have taken to making gamers skitter across snow levels as they try to maintain their foothold over precarious edges otherwise, just try to avoid the slippery situation. Here’s a bunch of game levels that really had us nit-picking, appreciating and enjoying them all at the same time.

15. Castle Crashers – Ice Fortress

Castle Crashers is not an exceptional game, but it is a fun game to if you have your cronies loitering about doing nothing. Nevertheless, the Ice Fortress level of the game presents a little more fun than other levels in the game, and most of it is owed to the music of the level.

Although there’s little enough new stuff that the level offers, but get a few nifty power-ups and the level makes for quite an exhilarating experience.

Developers try their best to make the experience of a game as memorable as possible by means of providing the user with the most ensnaring and engaging of story lines. But many a time, it is the side quests that provide the best experience that makes you delve into the experience of the game.

In light of these facts we have compiled this list of fifteen side quests spanning across a myriad of games that have made the experience of playing the respective games more than just memorable; quests that have either enhanced the main story line to new heights or have been intriguing enough in their own that they are considered full of splendour all in their own.

The following are in quasi-random order. Because why not?

15. GTA V – Quick Buck Side Mission

GTA V has tonnes of missions that span all through madness, fun and sombreness. But this simple side mission, where all you have to do is drop a fellow to the airport in time, who then will go on to tell you to buy stocks in a particular company can help you make a lot of money. Quite a heck load of it. Pretty neat stuff.

15 of the most bad ass headshots of all time.

Headshots have had quite a history in video games. They have always managed to provide gamers with an entirely new kind of satisfaction and enthralled them to new heights even in the most drab and hackneyed of games. Even though our good old Doom may have missed out on that, but right from landing on Goombas’ heads to today’s games that make players skull demolishing bullet experts.

All of this has had a special place in our minds since ever and these times have redefined thrill for us more than once. Here is a handful of those headshots that had us in a nervous frenzy of excitement and awe.

The following list is in random order.

15. TF 2 Headshot

As simple as Team Fortress 2’s mechanics may be, landing a bullet on a moving target’s head is tedious. We see here as the Sniper spots a Soldier running about and takes his head off just as the soldier is about to land on the other roof after his jump.

PlayStation games that Sony should introduce to their upcoming VR headset.

Technology has paved way for a lot of things, quite a lot of them unimaginable. Starting with the the expensive vacuum tube computers used by scientists, and coming to the infinitely more capable microprocessors present in everyday things, we have come a long way in defining the role of technology in our lives. The gaming industry has always been one of the most fervid adopters of new technology and as a result of the same, we get to witness the few of the most brilliant technologies that have been introduced by humanity. The latest in the line? Virtual reality.

Given, that virtual reality had been present for quite a while before now, but it had never quite been capable of attracting as many eyeballs as it does now. This immersive way of multi-media interaction found its way into gaming a handful of years back but only now has it truly shown itself. This first came to the front with Oculus Rift, an upcoming virtual reality headset. Now competition is hard to kill in this day and age.

And so, we already have a number of competitors not far behind. Valve was quick to say that they will be coming with a headset of their own and now Sony has taken up the call by announcing that they will introduce their virtual reality headset. With a console as good as the PS4, there ought to be some sweet games that should take advantage of the virtual reality headset. Here’s a bunch of PlayStation games that should make it to the list of virtual reality compatibility for Sony’s upcoming headset.

Note: This list consists of multiplatform games and is not only limited to exclusive titles.

15. FIFA 14

Fifa is one annual series that everyone look forward to. EA manages to outdo themselves year after year with every subsequent titles and it is heartening to watch them bring more realism and dynamism to the game. What better way to make it a virtual reality compatible game. Sony could really step things up for the franchise with its already huge fanbase on the existing consoles. What really makes the prospect worth looking into is the Be A Pro mode.

This feature has proven its mettle over the years and could prove to be one of the best ways to experience a match if FIFA titles become virtual reality headset compatible. With the camera following around your player in the field with the roaring crowd, every goal you score would be breathtaking moment. I see a lot of potential in this but EA Sports will need to work hard to make bring greater realism to the game if they wish to make the truly immersive.

Pokemon. Who doesn’t love Pokemon. Practically everyone who had a TV and cable knows and loves Pokemon. Childhood and Pokemon are synonymous with each other. So what started as an idea by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996 as a game for the Game Boy, turned out to be the second most popular and successful game-based media franchise right after Nintendo’s very own Mario.

After years of changing and growing, Pokemon is everywhere; there are games, movies anime, you name it and you will find Pokemon in it. With all that good progress have come new awesome Pokemon with every subsequent generations. As much awesomeness that we have witnessed, sometimes new Pokemon just turn out to be a butt hurt. A really sore one. Here’s a list of of the weirdest, most bizarre and idiosyncratic Pokemon of all time. I couldn’t help but be picky with more than 700 to choose from.

15. Mr. Mime

A dozen 12 years old are having a blast next door with their ridiculous music and squealing making you pull your hair? Are you gonna ask them politely to tone it down a bit? Not in the least. Send Mr. Mime. Seriously, Mr. Mime is like every child’s nightmare. Look at it. It looks like a paedophillic clown trying to grope with its gloved spindly hands. It’s pink and white and creepy as hell.

Looking like mutated poodle which can be a male or a female is one thing, sucking at being a psychic/fairy Pokemon another. It’s pathetic at defending itself and its attacks are weird. But I don’t suppose you’ve got any need for devastating attacks when you’ve got nightmare inducing freak Pokemon. Good thing it’s a little rare. I’ve never slept comfortably since my first encounter.

With 2014 fast approaching there is a slew of new PC exclusives coming to entertain us.

The PC as a gaming platform is at the top of it’s game, with a myriad of game developers, from the big names like EA and Ubisoft, to small indie developers and to the classic and iconic developers like id and Valve Software that have always backed the PC as a solid and reliable gaming platform.

The PC has always been a forerunning in gaming, swapping affordability for flexibility. Power can have it’s advantages if the gamer is willing to put a bit more time and effort into chasing down their favorite hobby. It can certainly get pricey and you’ve got all the overhead and more that comes with any personal computer, but it’s well worth the investment of time and money, specially with products like Steam, and now Valve’s new expansion into their own Operating System and specially branded “Steam Box.” Very soon, gamers won’t even need to drop a small fortune to get a high powered, PC running a new version of Linux. Yes, no doubt, that the up and coming 2014 is going to be an excellent year for PC gaming.

Note: List is in random order.

Eden Star:

Are you into Minecraft, but may want something a bit new? Or may be you are really big space nerd as well. Did you happen to enjoy the hell out of games like Portal and Portal 2? Well then, Eden Star may be a game for you. This first person, survival and world manipulation title, is the ultimate sandbox with a twist. The player can manipulate the environment with what looks like an anti-gravity glove, as well as explore a new mysterious and content with its native population.

If you're a fan of the first person genre than 2014 may be the year for you. There's bound to be something to tickle your fancy.

There are some really great FPS games that we can see on the horizon. As soon as the first quarter of the new year is done there’s a good chance you may seem some really big franchises hitting retail shores. All the major consoles are getting some great releases, some of them cross platform, others may be exclusives, but chances are there’s a little bit or something for any FPS fans that are out there. Everything from stealth action, zombie survival and giant robots are coming our way beginning this January.

Note: This list consists of non shooter games as well.

Titanfall:

Titanfall was originally announced as an Xbox One exclusive at E3. Soon after that though, it was announced that it’d be a timed exclusive and recently, developers Respawn Entertainment has announced that it will be releasing simultaneously on the PC. If you like first person shooters, and gigantic, fighting robots then you may be in for a real treat. Unlike other games that offer a similar robotic combat experience, like Mechwarrior Online or Hawken, you can actually get out of your massive, walking suit of armor whenever you want or need to.

The weapons that characters can use, in some cases should be able to knock down one of these monsters. Granted, these robots can shoot, smash or step on you like an ant, but at least there’s a fighting chance. Players who decide to not use their walking, 60 foot death machines also have an added agility advantage, since from what we’ve seen in videos there will be jet packs. If there’s one thing we can use more of in gaming, it’s jet packs and giant fighting robots.
