Making a great video game trailer is an important key in selling a product but convincing gamers to try it out just through a trailer is tough. Within just a few short minutes, developers must explain the video game in all aspects. From story, tone and gameplay it’s no easy task within the short amount of time given. Despite the rumors, reviews or friends’ recommendations, the trailers below simply sold us and possibly you on the video game. Here are the top video game trailers that nailed the formula and completely sold us on picking the video game up right upon release.

Note: List is in random order.

Gears of War

Developer: Epic Games, People Can Fly

Publisher: Microsoft Studios

Platforms: Xbox 360, PC

Soundtrack is very important when choosing how to set the tone of your video game. With Gears of War, you couldn’t have put down a better song to match the emotions the characters are having within this world. If you haven’t played the Gears of War franchise on the Microsoft Xbox 360 then you’re simply missing out.

Players take on the role of Marcus Fenix, an old soldier who was written off and thrown into prison after abandoning his military post years ago. A total of fourteen years have passed since the Emergence Day, a date marked for when the Locust Horde declared war on the human race. Now reinstated to the military, Marcus Fenix is apart of an elite squad set out to attempt in taking down the alien threat with Gears of War being the first title in the trilogy.

Which Trailer got you hyped for a game?

There is a reason why companies upload video game trailers, it’s because they want the gamers to see what to look forward to in the game in terms of visuals, gameplay and story. Of course not all video game trailers are complete lies as many of you would like to believe.

There are some video game trailers that depict truth, passion, and a sense of wanting the player to believe in their game. Some of the trailers these days are literally jaw dropping, because the trailer looks that good and we know for a fact that games have matched movies in their use of cinematics, and It comes as no surprise then that video game trailers have more and more become a key promotional tool. With that being said here are some of the most awesome video game trailers of all time.

Note: List is in random order

Rise of the Tomb Raider

While many believed the title of the next Tomb Raider was not well thought of, it certainly didn’t diminish the impact the trailer had on audiences worldwide. The trailer was quite well done and you will notice that it cuts between her doing what Lara Croft does best, like shooting arrows, escaping a bear, and killing unsuspecting baddies—and her sitting with a psychiatrist, who tells her she should be “exploring new horizons”. Of course I’m sure Lara failed to mention to her psychiatrist about the 600+ body count she racked up in the first Tomb Raider.
