Do you have a friend, a relative, or someone else you always wanted to play games with on a couch, but can’t decide which one you should dive into? Worry not. Here are our 15 best recommendations for couch co-op gamers.

Once a principal staple of games some twenty plus years ago, the ability to play in local, couch co-op nowadays more often seems a sought-after feature than something to be expected. There’s an unrivalled joy in playing together in the same room as others; something which online multi-player cannot replicate. Couch co-op is still a thing though; whilst some developers add local co-op respectively via updates, some of the best available weave the requirement to work diligently together into the very fabric of the game’s design.

The Dark World expansion out on same day for Xbox One.

Remember TowerFall Ascension, the crazy 2D multiplayer title that focused on flicking arrows, killing your friends and hopping about stages? After releasing on the PC, PS4 and PS Vita (let’s pretend the Ouya release never happened), it’s finally coming to Xbox One on January 25th as per Eurogamer.

Developed by Matt Thorson, TowerFall Ascension was pegged for release on Xbox One back in August 2015. Along with a release date for the base game, it was also announced that the latest expansion – The Dark World – will be out on the same day for Xbox One so there’s even more content to experience.

With four player local competitive support, TowerFall Ascension was rated fairly high when it first released, holding an 87 score on both the PC and PS4. What are your thoughts on finally playing it on Xbox One? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information when it eventually goes live.

Look! PS+ on PS4 doesn't suck for a change!

PS+ offerings on PlayStation 4 have so far largely been disappointing- which makes sense if you think about it, there really isn’t much on the console to begin with that can be given away for free. But next month, it appears that Sony will actually be giving away some pretty damn good games. NowGamer reports that we can expect Strider and Towerfall Ascension, two relatively great and recent PlayStation 4 games, to hit the service’s Instant Game Collection next month.

That would be rather good, and a huge improvement from what we get now. Co-incidentally enough, Microsoft’s renewed Games with Gold Program also begins in July, and it will be bringing similarly free games to Xbox Live on Xbox One as well. Competition, you see, is a great thing.

No word yet on what the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita games will be. Take this report with a grain of salt for the time being as we still need an official confirmation from Sony. Stay tuned to GamingBolt, and we will keep you posted.

TowerFall Ascension has now released for the PS4, Matt Thorson (the game’s developer) has announced. The game’s also received a launch trailer, and it shows plenty of gameplay for you guys to check out, just in case you’re interested in buying the game. Take a look at the video above.

“Making TowerFall has been the most rewarding experience of my life,” said the game’s creator, Matt Thorson, over on the PlayStation Blog. “When I put love into the game, I see it returned to me tenfold by the TowerFall community, and it only appears to be growing. I also had the privilege of working with some incredibly talented, capable, and pleasant people.”

TowerFall Ascension is an archery platformer featuring multiplayer combat and co-op battles. The game’s been getting some decent reviews so far, so you might want to give it a try.

Stay tuned for GB for more updates.

No update on a European release yet.

Matt Thorson, the developer behind the 4-player archery combat platformer, TowerFall Ascension has announced that the game will be released on the PlayStation 4 on March 11th, 2014 in North America. However the European release date is still not clear as the developer is ironing out details at the moment.

Matt had the following to say regarding the announcement: “If you’ve played the original TowerFall you know that at its core, the game is about intense 4-player battles. In Ascension there are 50 new Versus arenas to fight on, for a total of 120 unique levels, and a bunch of new variants to customize your matches with. There are a few new powerups too, which change the game up considerably. My favorite: drill arrows that burrow through walls.”

TowerFall Ascension will also offer 1 or 2-player co-op quest mode which is essentially an arena mode wherein you will go in solo against monsters.

Are you planning to buy TowerFall Ascension? Let us know in the comments section below.

"I’ve always felt an affinity for difficult games that allow me to master a finely-tuned system of mechanics"

Earlier today it was announced via the PlayStation Blog that the developer behind the indie action game, TowerFall Ascension is planning to release the game for PS4 in Febrary of 2014. TowerFall Ascension, in the developers words, is a multiplayer, combat game in which the player utilizes archery to destroy his or her friends. The intent of the game is such that it should be relatively easy to pick up and figure out how to play, but as the gamer devotes more time, new levels of strategy are understood and employed.

Here are the Matt Thorson’s thoughts on making the game purely multiplayer:

“From the moment I had four players jumping around on screen, I knew TowerFall was a game about bringing people together. From childhood all through high school and university, I had a lot of meaningful experiences with local multiplayer. I’ve always felt an affinity for difficult games that allow me to master a finely-tuned system of mechanics, but local multiplayer adds another dimension.”

In TowerFall Ascension, we can expect 50 new levels, four more playable archers, a brand new 12-player co-op mode, six new power ups, and many more additional features.
