The game was showcased during the recent Insider Gaming Show with a trailer giving us a look at its early-in-development gameplay.

Developer Eighth Lantern Studios has unveiled its first project as a studio. Dubbed Toypunk, the game was shown off with a trailer during the Insider Gaming Show May 2026 Edition, giving us a glimpse at the project in its very early stages.

Toypunk has been described as a roguelite looter shooter where players will take hordes of enemies, and as they progress through the level, get to pick up new power ups. What sets it apart from other roguelite shooters is its art style.

As its name might imply, Toypunk has a toybox aesthetic going for it, with playable characters all seemingly being knitted dolls. As a result, even the upgrades you pick up are patches that are sewn onto your body. The trailer refers to the player’s characters as puppets. Much like the player characters, enemies also look like toys, with some notable ones looking like stuffed monsters.

Aside from monsters, there will also seemingly be plenty of other things to kill, including a horde of bouncy rubber ducks that appear to be spewing out of a bath tub.

The trailer makes it a point to note that this is all early gameplay footage, explaining the fact that even the background cityscape doesn’t have any texture on it. Similarly, all of the weapon and monster effects seem to be placeholder ones generated by the game’s engine.

The studio behind the title describes itself as being made up of veterans of AAA game development. On its official website, it described Toypunk as involving “rubber chickens, puppets, several crates of hand-me-down toys, and a heaping pile of guns.”

Toypunk doesn’t yet have a release date, and has only been confirmed for a PC release.
