Transformers Universe is, you guessed it, a new MOBA being developed based on the Transformers universe. It will be, like the most successful MOBAs are, free to play, and it will be entering open beta starting July 4th. To commemorate the open beta, there will be a double XP weekend, a 24-hour live Twitch stream (11am EDT July 5 – 11am EDT July 6) and $75,000 in prizes.

“We’re delighted to be opening our game to the public, a game we believe is worthy to be Jagex’s second massively multiplayer online game,” said Mark Gerhard, Jagex CEO & CTO. “Our Beta community have been having enormous fun playing, as have we, often being schooled by them! Everyone has been absolutely fantastic throughout the Closed Beta and provided us with great feedback which we continue to implement into the game service through our weekly updates.”

He continued: “True to our heritage we’ve pioneered a game in which all content can be enjoyed for free, simply through play. With almost two million battle victories recorded during the Closed Beta, our players evidently had the most fun — and success — while playing together with their friends in teams. I’ve been delighted to see teams invent strategies and tactics that we had not even imagined, and can’t wait to see what new players come up with.”

Jagex have released two new videos for their upcoming massively online tactical action game Transformers Universe- or a MOTA game, to be short and concise- that lift the wraps off two new characters that will be featured in the title. These characters are the Autobot Catapult and the Decepticon Shellshock.

The autobot Catapult “moves in the shadows with the strut of a notorious gunslinger and reads cross-winds like a circling hawk”. “A mysterious loner, the only trace this Autobot exists is a tag scratched into every ‘Con she dispatches to the scrapyard,” says her description.

The Decepticon Shellshock, on the other hand, is retired and isn’t liking it too much. He’s been “holed up in his armory feverishly waiting for the call” and is described as a “career killer”. His description says that if you put him in a battlefield, no matter where you put him, “[he] will have a blast every time.”

Sure the Decepticons are cooler but the Autobots aren’t any slouches either. The game will be released in 2013 for the PC, and is a massive MMO, developed by Jagex.

Jagex Games have released new details about the upcoming Transformers Universe.

The Jagex team are on hand at the convention to speak to gamers and TRANSFORMERS fans alike about the new MMO slated for release in 2012 and, for the first time to a European audience, the customisation that will be available to players of the new MMO in 2012 will be demonstrated on the fully interactive booth. The booth allows visitors to choose their allegiance to either the AUTOBOT or DECEPTICON factions and customise their choice. Gamescon visitors will then receive a print out of the unique TRANSFORMERS character they have created. When the game launches next year, players will be able to choose from various classes of robots, adding a further variant to the character creation element; already highly anticipated by fans and gamers alike.

“Players who like to engage as the tank in co-op team play will be drawn to this Brawler Class. The strength and resilience of this class makes it the perfect choice for those who like to get up close in a battle environment, for those who like a good brawl.” Stated Kris Jones, Transformers Universe senior producer.
