As a result, the company will continue to update it and aim to “expand sales.” The first major update for the title arrives in November and adds four new Demons, a Dash function, and High-Speed Battle Mode. Interestingly, Two Point Studios’ Two Point Campus also struggled somewhat.

Despite a record high number of users and user evaluations, its unit sales were “weaker than expected.” It did have one million players within two weeks, but it seems that didn’t translate into sales.

Bonuses for pre-ordering include a “U” Topiary for decorating one’s garden, the Fountain of Knowledge, which one shouldn’t actually drink from, and the Pearl of Wisdom. Two Point Hospital owners can also receive some Campus items to decorate their hospital. These include a Chef’s Outfit, Knight’s Armor, Wizardry Cauldron and Campus Jacket.

In a recently released behind-the-scenes video, the folks over at Two Point Studios discussed the upcoming Two Point Campus. While the upcoming simulator will, of course, bring over several of its predecessor’s features and mechanics – such as being able to instantly use templates – the developers say the game will also offer much wider and more flexible tools so that players can get much more creative while creating their very own campus. Two Point Campus will launch on August 9 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. 

The biggest new addition here is ambulances, and with those come new gameplay mechanics centered around managing a fleet of ambulances to pick up patients and further drive up your hospital’s business. In addition to that, the DLC will also bring several new illnesses, new items and fully animated cure machines, three new locations, new music, DJ, and tannoy lines, and new hospitals.

The DLC will launch on March 15, though there is a catch- like some previous DLCs the game has received, it will release only for its PC version. Whether or not there are any plans to release it for the game’s console version remains to be seen.

Two Point Hospital is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A successor, Two Point Campus, is releasing on May 17, just a couple months after this new DLC launches for the original title.

Prime subscribers this month can get their hands on EA’s action-adventure game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which we at GamingBolt enjoyed a lot. Additionally, SEGA’s strategy game Total War: Warhammer and Saber Interactive’s co-op zombie shooter World War Z: Aftermath are also up for grabs, among many others. Two Point Hospital will be featured in the Nintendo Game Trials, which allows Switch Online subscribers to try out the full game for a limited period of time – a week in this case. Among Us is also currently on offer, so interested fans might want to check it out. It’s not yet confirmed whether the offer would be exclusive to the Europe region or not, but details are sure to emerge shortly.

The charts for boxed video game sales in the UK for the week ending March 7 are in (via GamesIndustry), and Nintendo and Spike Chunsoft’s Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX – a remake of the first games in the subseries that launched for the GBA and DS in 2006 – has debuted in pole position. In comparison, Red Rescue Team (GBA) and Blue Rescue Team (DS) debuted at No. 14 and No. 34 respectively back when they released. Meanwhile, the last Mystery Dungeon title – the 3DS’ Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon – debuted at No. 9 in 2016.

Two Point Hospital, which debuted in second place last week, has fallen down to the sixth spot, seeing a 69 per cent week-on-week drop. In second place is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, followed by perennial performers Grand Theft Auto 5 and FIFA 20. Meanwhile, The Division 2 – which has been enjoying something of a resurgence of late, thanks in part to the release of its new expansion – takes the fifth spot.

It was surprising to hear that Sega and Two Point Studios would be bringing the game over to consoles – sim games traditionally aren’t a good fit for those platforms owing to their far more limited control schemes – but they’ve done just that, and now that the port is here, we can confidently register our surprise at just how well it has translated over. This is the same full-fat experience we got and liked on PC (well, mostly. We’ll get back to that in a bit), but now on your console of choice.

The conceit of the game, in case the name hasn’t tipped you off, is that you build and run a network of hospitals. It’s your job to manage your enterprise and ensure it’s successful, while also not gouging people with your prices so much that you start getting bad press, and people stop coming to your hospitals. Two Point Hospital keeps its tongue firmly in cheek as it goes about this premise, and the subtle prods at the failings of the profit-driven healthcare system are a blast.

The humor in the game goes beyond just satire. The afflictions people suffer from are patently absurd (such as having a utensil stuck on their head, which is definitely not a medical epidemic), the staff you hire will have really funny backgrounds and employment references, and the soundtrack, punctuated by a radio-show style talk show host, manages to catch your attention often with just how absurd it is.

Beyond the humor, the game works more or less how you expect it to: you build facilities in your hospitals, you staff them with the right professionals, and you try to balance your income and your expenses. Things get more and more layered and nuanced over time – more facilities become available to you, you’re asked to start also addressing tertiary concerns for your patients and staff alike (such as a staff room, or vending machines for refreshments), you’re managing multiple hospitals at once, and even a single hospital can have multiple buildings.

To the game’s credit, it does an excellent and admirable job of slowly rolling these things out, with really well explained tutorials that are doled out at a steady pace, so you never feel too restricted in terms of what you can do, while also not feeling too overwhelmed by any of it. These tutorials do a great job of showing you the ropes of the management and sim aspects that comprise the core loop of the game, whether you’re a veteran of sim games, or a newcomer to the genre.

And that core loop is addictive. It’s easy to lose hours into Two Point Hospital, slowly building up your medical empire, punctuated by you addressing each crisis as it comes, not even realizing how much time you have spent on the game. Like any good sim game, Two Point Hospital can entirely take over your life, if you let it.

There is some friction to it doing that in the console version versus the PC one, however. While the developers have done a competent job of trying to map the controls to the more limited controllers on consoles versus the versatility of a keyboard and mouse setup, they naturally run into some hindrances and roadblock, that do grate during the experience. This can include something as simple as wanting to cancel out of item selection when building a room (and accidentally cancelling everything you have done so far), to just having to dig deep into menus and submenus to find the information you are looking for. None of this is game breaking, but it does intrude upon your enjoyment with frequent pangs of annoyance.

The other big change here is that while Two Point Hospital is mostly full-fledged, it lacks the sandbox mode that is available on the PC version. The sandbox mode is, as the name implies, just where you start a hospital and manage it without limitations or prescribed objectives, and a staple of the genre. According to the developers, this is coming to the console versions by the end of March, so it’s a temporary issue, but if you mean to buy it now, for that mode, it’s something to keep in mind.

I also want to talk about the performance of the game, which can stutter surprisingly, and run into frequent prolonged loading screens when saving your file. A part of this can be attributed to the game being built on Unity, which doesn’t seem to handle consoles too well – but at any rate, the developers have promised that updates and patches, including some available at launch itself, will smooth those things out.

There’s very little to complain about with Two Point Hospital otherwise. While it’s not the best sim game ever, it’s a damn good one, and the fact that it’s come over to consoles is great, even with the understandable concessions considered. While it won’t appeal to a lot of console players, those who give it a try will find a funny, charming, and incredibly addictive game that they can lose hours of their life to.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers take note – Kazuma Kiryu is coming next week. Microsoft has announced that Sega’s Yakuza 0 will debut on Xbox Game Game Pass for consoles on February 26th. The title has also been confirmed for Game Pass on PC but doesn’t have a release date yet.

Console subscribers can also look forward to Ninja Gaiden 2, Team Ninja’s super-difficult and action-packed hack and slash title, on February 20th. February 25th sees a number of titles joining the service including Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts 3, inXile’s Wasteland Remastered and Sega’s Two Point Hospital. The Jackbox Party Pack 3 releases on February 27th to close out this month’s offerings. Basically, clear your schedule for next week.

Xbox Game Pass for PC subscribers will receive Yakuza 0, Wasteland Remastered, Reigns: Game of Thrones, Two Point Hospital and Indivisible. These titles will also be out this month so expect more details in the coming days. Xbox Game Pass currently costs $9.99 for consoles and $4.99 for PC.

Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition

The quintessential “Everything that is Street Fighter 5” package, Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition has 40 fighters, including newcomers like Gil and Seth. It also has more than 200 costumes, save for certain content like Fighting Chance outfits or the Capcom Pro Tour DLC. If you’ve ever, ever felt curious about owning everything for Street Fighter 5 – save for good netcode but thankfully there are mods – then this is the definitive package. It’s out on February 14^th for PS4 and PC.

The Yakuza Remastered Collection: Day One Edition

Though you could technically purchase the digital bundle now and receive remastered versions of Yakuza 3 and 4 on the PS4, Yakuza 5’s remaster is out on February 11^th. Not only that but The Yakuza Remastered Collection: Day One Edition, a physical bundle for all three games, releases on the same day. With multiple playable characters, the series’ trademark of memorable sidestories and awesome combat, the bundle is a must-have for every fan.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV will finally get its Western localization for PS4 and PC on February 28^th. Once again, you’ll build up your region in the Three Kingdoms era, fashion an army and fight to conquer China. With dozens of cities across 340 regions and over 1000 officers, there’s more than enough to keep fervent strategy fans busy.

One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows

One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows might be the most intriguing fighting game in a while. You battle with teams of three fighters – which consist of characters from the anime/manga like Child Emperor, Silver Fang, Genos and Tatsumaki – but also have the option to choose the powerful Saitama. The problem is he won’t be available at the start of the fight. When he does arrive, everyone goes down in one hit but things can get crazy when two Saitamas face off. One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows releases on February 28th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Conan Chop Chop

A cartoony roguelike with online and local co-op, Conan Chop Chop pays homage to the classic barbarian in its own ways. From an April Fool’s joke to a full-fledged game with tons of armor and weapons, unlocks, procedurally generated levels and new abilities, Conan Chop Chop looks like a fun hack and slash title to while away the hours. It releases on February 25^th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Switch.

Dreams

Media Molecule’s magnum opus has been in development for years and is finally nearing release. Dreams offers a traditional story mode where players explore different titles as part of “Art’s Dream”. However, the real appeal is in using the creation suite to craft your own games – or art and music – to share with others, and in turn experiencing theirs. With a comprehensive set of tools, a home space for players and oodles of tutorials to ease players in, Dreams will be quite the experience when it arrives on February 14^th for PS4.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War

Four playable characters with customizable abilities and weapons, new areas like a zombie zoo teeming with horrors, and a Zombie Tank await in Zombie Army 4. The story is simple: Zombie Hitler is back with his hordes of undead. So shoot, crush, burn and electrocute them to bits. It really doesn’t get any better but you also have the X-Ray Kill Cam, environmental traps like Zombie Sharks and much more to savor. Zombie Army 4 releases on February 4^th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection

A compilation of some of the best side-scrolling action titles in history, this Legacy Collection features Mega Man Zero 1 to 4 and Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent. Along with a Casual Scenario Mode, players can partake in several new mini-games, the new Z Chaser mode, the art gallery or just listen to their favorite tunes. Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection is out on February 25^th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Switch.

Two Point Hospital (Consoles)

The spiritual successor to Theme Hospital, Two Point Hospital is, surprise surprise, all about managing a hospital. Sounds straightforward but with quirky staff and strange illnesses, you’ll have your hands full. Be prepared to build different rooms, train your staff and ideally rake in the profits. Two Point Hospital is already out on PC but will be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch on February 25^th.

Monster Energy Supercross 3

Subliminally influenced by all the Monster Energy product placement in Death Stranding but can’t stomach the drink? Monster Energy Supercross 3 could be the next best thing when it releases on February 4^th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Switch. Based on the official 2019 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season, the title offers a dedicated career mode with 100 riders, 15 tracks and a track editor. Along with various animation and model improvements, online multiplayer now supports dedicated servers.

Neverwinter: Infernal Descent

Cryptic Studios’ free to play MMO continues to thrive with the Infernal Descent expansion. Along with new characters, a new adventure zone around the Vallenhas Estate and the new Infernal Citadel dungeon, players will experience a new storyline based on the D&D campaign for Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus. Currently available for PC, the expansion is out on February 25^th for PS4 and PC.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

If you’re getting tired of waiting for Gears Tactics or Wasteland 3, then perhaps The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics will fill that turn-based tactical void. Based on the hit Netflix show, players will lead the Gelfling clans into battle against the Skeksis for the glory of Thra. There are 14 playable characters, who can each be assigned jobs and different abilities, and over 50 different battles to overcome. Look for the title to release on February 4^th for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
