Ubisoft's Richard Knight also talks about the benefits of swimming anywhere when venturing to the Caribbean's many islands.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced made a short appearance at the Future Games Show, with game director Richard Knight going over everything that’s changed. Much of it is rehashed from previous features and deep dives, but he also sheds a bit more light on Lucy, one of the three new Officers that Edward can recruit.

As it turns out, she’s a wanted criminal when you first meet, with whispers of her bounty circulating through the port. However, there’s more to her story than you’d think – a family fortune, to be more specific, and unless you help, she won’t be keen on joining you. Then there’s the new Blackbeard-focused quest, which will see players learning more about him and Edward’s past.

Swimming is also notable thanks to the ability to dive anywhere. While this can be useful for sneaking around, it’s also great for reaching certain islands where there’s no spot to dock the Jackdaw. Edward may even find some shortcuts. Finally, Knight talks about another Officer Skill, Brace, which can reduce damage greatly and new Ultimate weapons, allowing you to switch between modes seamlessly during naval combat.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced arrives on July 9th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our latest hands-on preview for all the details, or listen to Woodkid’s new theme here.

Edward and the boys embark on some sick heists against hostile pirate ships, though it's clear that the good times can't last forever.

A new trailer debuted for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which is out on July 9th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and it gives us a new look – or rather, listen – at the new theme, “Woodkid.” Titled “Leave Her Johnny” Resynced, it contains some familiar refrains of the classic Assassin’s Creed music, and fits very well with what’s happening.

We see Edward Kenway asked if privateering is dangerous – to which he responds that it wouldn’t be worthwhile otherwise. Leaning on the “collective madness” of his crew, he decides to pursue a dangerous mission. Underneath all the ship combat and celebration, there is a sense of foreboding about a fate that none of them can escape.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a ground-up remake of the 2012 classic on the latest Anvil Engine. It has the same story but with new scenes for Edward, new side quests focused on his beloved companions, and even some new characters to recruit as officers on the Jackdaw. Combat is completely overhauled with new weapon types added, and there are even new endgame missions which see Edward going up against a legendary pirate hunter.

Thus far, it’s shaping up quite well. You can check out our latest feature and learn more about the naval combat here.

A Steam launch could open the doors for a wider player pool, especially for fans of the first two mainline looter shooters.

How the time has flown. It feels like The Division Resurgence was out just yesterday, but it’s been around two months since the lot of you got the chance to join the SHD’s Agents and protect New York City from a new threat.

Well, you’re going to see more friendly faces on its chaotic streets as the game is prepping to launch on Steam in the near future, with wishlists already open for those who are enthusiastic enough to join in. It’s been quite entertaining taking on waves of enemies with the game’s cover-based shooting and a customization system that offers scope for some truly unique looks and a lot of player freedom.

Granted, you could technically play it on your PC via the Ubisoft Store. However, Resurgence’s Steam launch is definitely good news for a title that needs more Agents joining the fray. If nothing else, it ensures more assistance during matchmade and endgame activities (though it also means the Dark Zone will be a lot more dangerous).

The announcement has come via a pretty intense trailer that we’ve showcased below if you and your buddies are looking for a new shooter to team up in. As for The Division 3, it’s slowly making progress, if a new mass hiring spree by Ubisoft is any indication.

The new job listings indicate that Massive Entertainment has turned its full attention towards the development of The Division 3.

While Ubisoft has been quiet about the development of The Division 3, it looks like work on the project is still continuing. A host of new job listings have popped up on the company’s careers page that all involve working on The Division 3 out of Massive Entertainment’s Malmö office in Sweden.

Among the roles that Ubisoft is looking to fill are senior realization programmer, lead game designer, animation director, senior AI game designer, lead AI programmer, senior tools programmer, and senior systems game designer.

The role of senior realization programmer seems to be one of the more unique ones of the bunch, with its job description noting that it involves joining a “newly formed Realization team” for The Division 3. The team will collaborate with other programming teams, and will have the developer working on “Character Realization for both players and NPCs,” while also working on other aspects of the title, including lighting, audio, and facial animation, among others.

While no new details about The Division 3 have been revealed through these job listings, the one for lead game designer reaffirms that the title will be following in the footsteps of its predecessors in being an online live-service title. The role involves driving the “design and execution of key Social and Online features, while helping shape the foundations required to support the game as a live experience.”

Owing to Ubisoft’s general silence about The Division 3, the departure of former executive producer Julian Gerighty back in January had indicated that the project might be facing some trouble. However, the studio acknowledged Gerighty’s departure, and said that it plans to continue working on the game. Gerighty himself said that “The Division’s future burns bright, and I can’t wait for you to discover what the teams have been working on.”

Before his departure, however, Gerighty had spoken about the development of The Division 3, and while he didn’t reveal any real details, he noted that “It’s shaping up to be a monster,” and “I can’t really say anything more than that.”

Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 was officially announced all the way back in 2023. However, the studio had been busy with its single-player open world game, Star Wars Outlaws, on which Gerighty served as creative director. At the time, he said that he was “setting his sights” on The Division 3, and that he had started building a team at Massive Entertainment that could handle the development.

In the meantime, Massive Entertainment has continued to support The Division 2 with major updates. Earlier this year, the company announced that its Year 8 plans for the live-service cover-based looter shooter would involve the introduction of cross-platform multiplayer, more attention paid to PvP balance, and an entirely new Incursion – the Steel Creek hydroelectric dam and power station.

An update from back in April introduced a new difficulty system for Escalations, with an entirely new set of Mutators and Modifiers that would change up how players would have to tackle the various combat encounters.

The Division 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Technical director Thibaut Assandri spoke about how DLSS was important for making the Nintendo Switch 2 version look and run well.

With Rayman Legends Retold, Ubisoft is looking forward to bringing major upgrades to the platformer’s visual fidelity. Despite this, however, the company is confident about how well the title will perform on the Nintendo Switch 2 despite the console’s lack of raw horsepower when compared to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. In an interview with VideoGamesChronicle, Ubisoft Montpellier’s technical director, Thibaut Assandri, spoke about the game’s performance, its visual fidelity, and how it was developed for the Nintendo Switch 2.

One of the biggest features available on the Nintendo Switch 2 that isn’t on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will be the unique version of Nvidia’s DLSS for image upscaling. Assandri noted that the technology has worked quite well, even allowing the company to output the title at full 4K when the console is docked, since power consumption isn’t a concern at that point. DLSS has helped the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Rayman Legends Retold to be “quite on par” with the Xbox Series S in terms of visual fidelity and performance, he said.

“The DLSS is working quite well, as you can see,” said Assandri, “When it’s docked, it’s full 4K because we don’t have to care about power consumption, so we can go a bit higher. Essentially, on Switch 2, we are quite on par with the Xbox Series S [version in terms of] quality.”

There were plenty of technical decisions made to ensure that Rayman Legends Retold would run well on Nintendo Switch 2, especially when it comes to more resource-intensive techniques like ray tracing. Since Ubisoft Montpellier is aiming to run the title on Nintendo’s hybrid console at 60 FPS, it had to work hard to ensure that Ubisoft’s in-house Snow Drop engine was up to the task.

“As you might know, ray tracing is quite costly,” he said, “ [In Star Wars Outlaws on Switch 2], they deal with it by running at 30 FPS, but we are aiming for 60 on all platforms, from the most humble – Switch 2 – to the most high end, a PS5 Pro, or high end PC – so it was quite a challenge… we [had] to really push the limit of Snow Drop from 30 FPS to 60.”

“One of the tricks we used to reach that quality is to lower the resolution. For most of the GPU [resources] it depends on the resolution, so the more we reduce resolution, the less costly it will be.”

Among the tweaks made to the Snow Drop engine involved changing things that weren’t quite needed for Rayman Legends Retold. Since the engine was designed around rendering massive open worlds for Ubisoft’s other games, Assandri noted that the team had the freedom to change things like how level of detail is calculated.

“We develop a thing where the level of detail is not based on distance [from parts of the environment] but it’s based on ratio and scale,” he explained. “So, depending on the size of the character on screen, it will change the level of detail accordingly to that… the amount of detail that we have on PS5 is approximately the same as on Switch 2.”

These decisions ultimately helped the studio ensure that it could target 60 FPS at the same resolution on all platforms, regardless of the number of players on the screen.

Rayman Legends Retold is slated for an October 1st release on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The title was unveiled with a brand new trailer showcasing its new take on the 2013 original's iconic art style, and plenty of gameplay.

After many months of rumors and leaks, Ubisoft has finally unveiled Rayman Legends Retold with a trailer during the June 2026 edition of State of Play. Starting things off with a small cinematic, the trailer then gives us a look at its brand-new take on the classic art style in gameplay. Check it out below.

As was previously indicated from leaked screenshots, Rayman Legends Retold will make use of a fully-3D art style, as opposed to the original Rayman Legends’ hybrid take that melded 2D and 3D art for various situations. Much like the original, however, the remake will also offer a large amount of gameplay variety that constantly changes things up.

Rayman Legends Retold is a remake of the side-scrolling platformer Rayman Legends, which was originally released in 2013 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. A direct sequel to Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends tells the story of the nightmares having grown in numbers and strength thanks to the heroes deciding to take an incredibly-long break. This means that the enemies have now taken on the form of the monsters from legend, and it’s up to the freshly awakened Rayman and his buddies to save the Glade of Dreams.

In gameplay terms, Rayman Legends is a platformer that makes use of clever shifts in perspective to bring about unexpected gameplay changes to keep things fresh. Along with this, the title was also praised for its use of musical stages.

Going by the trailer, Rayman Legends Retold will also retain the 4-player co-op of the original. Whether or not it will also feature the competitive minigames from the 2013 classic remains to be seen, however.

Rayman Legends Retold is slated for release on October 1st.

As more evidence piles up, it seems the Rayman Legends remake and Rayman Origins remaster could both be revealed at State of Play.

While pre-orders for Rayman Legends Retold, the remake of Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends, have yet to begin as rumored, more reports have emerged supporting its existence. The most notable is an outlet whose preview unintentionally went live early, complete with screenshots of the new look.

Though it’s since been pulled, you can view the page through the Wayback Machine (courtesy of Insider Gaming). Instead of the classic UbiArt visuals, it looks more 2.5D and even features a few 3D sequences. Some may wonder whether replacing the original’s art style is necessary, but the results aren’t looking too shabby.

Unfortunately, it seems that reports of online co-op may not be true, according to Dealabs’ Billbil-kun. However, alongside revealing a blurred version of the physical Switch 2 version (which is on a Game-Key card), they claimed it would include Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition for free.

If you’ll recall, the latter recently surfaced on the Microsoft Store for a whopping $1,999 before getting pulled. It promised 4K/60 FPS and quality-of-life features while including the PS Vita version’s Relics.

As for Rayman Legends Retold, it’s also allegedly coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on October 1st, and will apparently feature collaboration skins with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Astro Bot.

Touting 4K/60 FPS, quality-of-life enhancements, and the previously PS Vita-exclusive Relics, it could launch later this week.

While rumors swirl about Rayman Legends Retold, a remake of the beloved UbiArt platformer from 2013, it seems Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition has leaked early. And you can thank none other than the Microsoft Store (via Resetera), whose listing of the title went live prematurely for a whopping $1,999.

Details were sparse before the listing was pulled, but it’s coming to Xbox Series X/S and promises 4K, 60 FPS and new quality-of-life features. Fans will also be pleased to learn that the Relics exclusive to the PlayStation Vita version are included. Totaling 60, collecting them would unlock murals that provided more lore on the characters.

A proper announcement and potential shadow drop are looking likely in the coming days, so stay tuned for more details. As for Rayman Legends Retold, it will allegedly be available to pre-order on June 2nd, but won’t necessarily be announced during State of Play. Dealabs’ Billbil-kun claims pre-orders will start at no later than 1 AM PT on the same day, so it could go either way.

The remake allegedly launches on October 1st for $39.99 and will feature four-player online co-op – a step up from the original, which only supported local play. It also apparently features crossovers, per N1-UP, with different skins based on Astro Bot and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

An announcement is reportedly coming within the next week, which leaves State of Play and the Summer Game Fest showcase.

Recently, a Twitter user known as asdf posted something odd – a logo for what they called Project Steambot, which says Rayman Legends Retold. Obviously, many assumed this is the rumored remake of the beloved 2013 platformer.

Though apparently possessing “more screenshots, skins and concept arts,” they declined to share them because an announcement is apparently near. And in case all this sounds too good to be true, Insider Gaming reports that the logo is real, and the project will be announced within the next week.

Even better, it’s allegedly scheduled to release on October 1st. The question now is when exactly the reveal will be. Summer Game Fest on June 5th would make sense, given that it should be a multiplatform launch. However, some have pointed out that Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition was announced at the last State of Play.

With the next scheduled for June 2nd at 2 PM PST, perhaps Ubisoft is coming back for an encore. Of course, the debate over whether Rayman Legends even needs a remake continues to circulate, but maybe there’s some new content to motivate current owners to double-dip.

Time will tell, so stay tuned for full coverage from State of Play, especially since it promises over 60 minutes of announcements and reveals, including combat from Marvel’s Wolverine.

In an interview, Richard Knight discussed how Edward is "a really bad assassin" at the start of the game before his character arc kicks in.

One of the major character arcs for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag protagonist Edward Kenway revolves around him only doing things for money at the beginning, before slowly becoming more and more like a true assassin. In an interview with GamesRadar, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced game director Richard Knight has spoken about this character arc, noting that he’s “a really bad assassin.”

He went on to discuss how Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will stick to the same arc, since not starting out with a straightforward, heroic protagonist is one of the many things that made the original Black Flag so interesting.

“He’s taking deals with Templars, he’s taking deals for money, he’s doing all these bad things to eventually become this heroic, larger-than-life character,” said Knight. “And the original game nailed that, and we don’t want to change that.”

Knight further explained that the team wants to make sure that Edward doesn’t lose his “spirit and flavor” and that his core story doesn’t see changes aside from an increase in visual fidelity and more modernized gameplay.

“It’s important for us to have that same spirit and flavor of Edward, to tell that same core story, just in greater fidelity, but in a modern gameplay experience too,” he said.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, and slated for a July 9th release. Recently, creative director Paul Fu spoke about the nature of remakes and remasters, and how, while Black Flag Resynced will have many new things, like gameplay systems and art assets created from the ground up, most of the game won’t really change.

“Most of it doesn’t change. We simply added onto it. We asked ourselves questions like ‘Should there be a dialogue choice?’ The obvious answer would be no. ‘Should it be an RPG?’ No. So we kept it as an action-adventure game.”

Design director Julian Koch spoke about some of these changes, which include the ability to crouch, which necessitates larger changes to the stealth system and level design, as well as the parkour system and collision detection for the in-game world.

“For the barrel, the metrics need to change because of the crouch, the new level of detail we’re adding,” he explained. “The parkour needs to follow; we’re redoing the collision as well. The base of the gameplay is the same, all of the design, but we have more tools to play with. But it needed to be rebuilt from the ground up.”

Among the biggest changes made in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced over the original is the fact that it won’t include the modern-day gameplay segments that explore the story of Desmond’s crew in the aftermath of Assassin’s Creed 3. Knight had spoken about how interest in this plotline had essentially gone away in more recent times.

“Back then, it was very important to know what happened to Desmond’s friends,” he said. “But what we want to do is take Black Flag and update it and modernize it for today. So we knew we needed to change certain things – you can still play the original Black Flag – but this one, to me, is the latest Assassin’s Creed. It’s the post-Shadows AC. It’s still an authentic retelling, but it’s also a new retelling.”
