EA never meant to charge money for the UFC and FIFA demos.

Earlier this morning, EA caused a furor when its demos for several EA Sports titles, such as FIFA 14 and UFC, were listed on Xbox Live as paid software- $5, specifically. A lot of people cried foul, and most people immediately jumped to the conclusion that this was yet another attempt by EA in a long line of moves to continue to wring money from their customers. To their credit, EA does indeed have a shady history with trying to charge money where none should be charged.

However, EA immediately rectified the error, and clarified that the demos were never meant to be gated behind a paywall at all, that it had in fact been a technical error.

“The price associated with the FIFA 14 and EA Sports UFC demos was due to a technical error. Both demos have now been fixed in the Microsoft store.”

So there you have it, folks. One less reason to shit on EA, for now. Unless… unless they did actually make the demos paid on purpose to gauge the reaction, as a testbed for the future!

Yep, get right back to hating EA, guys.

If you didn’t know by now, EA Sports UFC will feature the “Father of Mixed Martial Arts” Bruce Lee as a playable character if you pre-order the game. The developer made quite a bit of noise about accurately capturing Lee’s poise and awesomeness accurately but why believe pictures when you can check out gameplay footage? The newest trailer for the game gives us a glimpse at how Lee looks with EA’s Ignite Engine.

EA Sports UFC will be the fourth game in the MMA fighting franchise and will feature legendary fighters like Jon “Bones” Jones, Anderson Silva, Chris Weidman, Lyoto Machida and now Bruce Lee. We’re still unsure about how the gameplay will differ from previous titles but then again, it has Bruce Lee.

EA Sports UFC Starring Bruce Lee will be out on June 17th for Xbox One and PS4. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

EA Sports will be bringing its UFC series to the next generation systems, and what you see above is the first footage from their attempted next generation efforts for the games. The footage that you see above, the video reminds us, is ‘directly captured from PS4 and Xbox One gameplay.’

It certainly looks pretty, and there appear to be some nice physics at work here, so I mean, it looks like it would be a neat fighting game that would take advantage of the next generation consoles for more than just the visuals, but also for the gameplay as well. But well, there have been three high profile sports game bombs on next generation consoles already- FIFA 14, NBA 2K14, and most of all, NBA Live 14. Will UFC just be the next one to join the list?

In any case, stay tuned as we keep you posted on the game and its development on X1 and PS4.

It may still be iffy about introducing female players to FIFA 14, but EA Sports will be including female fighters in the upcoming UFC, which releases in Spring 2014 for Xbox One and PS4. UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and bantamweight contender Miesha Tate, who are embroiled in a rivalry which extends to coaching opposing teams on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter.

GM of EA Sports for UFC Dean Richards stated that, “This is a great moment for videogames and for Mixed Martial Arts. In our commitment to delivering the most realistic fighting experience ever achieved, we wanted to represent the full spectrum of talent and diversity of all the fighters in the sport, including women who have become an undeniable force to be reckoned with.”

There will be other female fighters present, and we can guess that Cristiane Justino, Liz Carmouche and many more will be making their way into the virtual octagon with all their signature moves present. And yes, you’ll be able to armbar opponents as Rousey. Stay tuned for more details.

Now, several features can be accessed by other franchises like Madden.

The true value of EA’s new Ignite Engine isn’t just in its next-gen aspirations but in that it allows for EA Sports to access the same set of features across multiple games, according to EA Sports executive vice-president Andrew Wilson.

Speaking to IGN, Wilson stated that, “We actually shared a fair bit of technology overall across our sports portfolio. However, the versions of each technology and the investment that was being made for that technology was somewhat disparate across the various franchises.

“So FIFA could build something into physics, but Madden would never get it – because they were on a different branch of that particular code base. What we did this time [with Ignite] wasn’t so much about getting a single engine – although that is what has facilitated the fundamental shift we’re about to embark on – it’s we’re all investing in a single code base.

“So when you think about the multiplier effect you’re going to get in year two or three of five or six or seven different game teams, all investing and innovating on a single code base, and all that innovation rolling back into a single branch which they all start from the following cycle – that’s the real value of Ignite.”

The model is similar to what Frostbite 3 is currently achieving for other EA games, in fact. “Now if FIFA builds something awesome it rolls back into the mainline, and Madden gets it the very next year. If Madden does something awesome it rolls back into the mainline, and NBA Live gets it the very next year. It’s not just about the shared technology; it’s about aggregate investment in innovation now across every team that feeds back in, and that is going to be accelerated for us in year two, year three, and year four.

“I believe we’re going to see some amazing things, as a result of that. I will pit my sports teams up against any other game team in the world. I think they’re unbelievably smart and bright, and deliver great innovation. And I believe Ignite is going to harness that at a greater level than we ever have before.”

The Ignite Engine will be exclusive to PS4 and Xbox One titles and will be used in games such as UFC, Madden NFL 25 and FIFA 14.

EA showcased a live action trailer on the Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC to hype the upcoming next generation title. If that weren’t enough, Bruce Buffer came to the stage at the press conference to introduce EA Sports head Andrew Wilson and UFC Europe head Gary Cook. Thankfully, no fighters were on stage to frighten the crowd.

They then showcased UFC, which used the Ignite Engine to make the fighters in game feel more like actual people, rather action figures. The footage showed Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones battling Alexander Gustaffson and displayed the Full Body Deformation and Real-time Exertion systems that will have an effect on play. As of now, it seems that UFC is a ways off from release (debuted in Spring 2014) but we like what we see so far.

UFC will be heading to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Stick around for more updates from Gamescom 2013, especially with Sony’s presser up next at 10 AM PST.

EA Sports officially revealed the next generation of UFC at EA’s press conference. And what better way to do it then have UFC Presient Dana White take the stage with two of his best fighters, namely Benson Henderson and Jon Jones (who is undefeated and very terrifying, FYI)?

There are worse ways this could end, for sure.

The trailer revealed showcases the new “full body deformation” of the game, along with the new Ignite Engine in action. This allows for fully detailed character models and realistic bruises and damage. Again, if this were really UFC, there are worse ways it could end.

Dana White then announced that the UFC game would be coming to the next generation of consoles, namely PS4 and Xbox One, in Spring 2014. Check out the trailer above to see if the game gets your bloodlust going, or taps into the “fighting DNA” that White was talking about.

The development for the Fight Night franchise is currently on hold according to IGN. They confirmed this after speaking with Andrew Wilson the CEO of EA Sports.

“Right now, a great portion of the core of the Fight Night team are actually the team that are building UFC,” said Andrew Wilson to IGN.

EA Sports is currently developing FIFA 14, new UFC title, NBA Live 14 and a new Madden that will be running on Ignite Next-Gen Engine for next-generation platforms.

Those who were looking forward to seeing a next-generation Fight Night title are going to be disappointed for the time being. Meanwhile, the best thing to do is wait patiently and see what happens next. I am pretty positive that EA Sports won’t leave out Fight Night fans lurking in the dark for too long.

Let us know what you think of this situation in the comments below.

Check back on GamingBolt for more news and updates regarding next-gen plans.

So yeah, Microsoft recently provided 30,000 coupons for watching an UFC match live on Xbox 360, but that didn’t turn out too well, as the traffic crashed the app itself. This shouldn’t have happened though, but it seems like Microsoft wasn’t expecting this.

They issued an apology to Bitmob, which you can check below.

“The broadcast of UFC 141 through the UFC for Xbox LIVE application was hampered by technical issues appearing in the hours leading up to the fight. Despite restoring service to some users during the course of UFC 141, there is a great deal of room for improvement. All 30,00 users who registered to view UFC 141 for free will be provided access to a future fight at no cost.

“We want to ensure that the 30,000 giveaway recipients for UFC 141 have an optimal experience with UFC on Xbox LIVE, and we are currently working with our partners at the UFC to ensure we deliver just that. The gamertags of the 30,000 users who registered for UFC 141 are being safely kept on file for free access to a future UFC event, and we will have more updates to share in the near future.”
