When Microsoft put Red Dead Redemption on Xbox One via their Xbox 360 backwards compatibility, there was a lot of rejoicing and celebration. Sales of Red Dead Redemption saw a spike, and the game’s success was used to prove that backwards compatibility as a feature has merit.

Somehow, I doubt that there will be that kind of jubilation at this development, but here goes- Red Dead Redemption is now available to play on PS Now, along with Undead Nightmare. This means that PS Now subscribers can use the game streaming service to play Red Dead on their PS4, PS3, PS Vita, PC, and certain models of TVs.

Of course, this would mean having to subscribe to PS Now, play games over the internet, potentially run into latency or data caps, and having to be always online just to play the game anyway. I think PS Now has merit as an idea, but I still don’t like it as a substitute to traditional backwards compatibility.

This is following the announcement of its backwards compatibility on Xbox One.

Following the announcement of Red Dead Redemption going backwards compatible for Xbox One on July 8th, sales of the base game and the Game of the Year Edition have shot up tremendously.

As per Amazon UK, sales of the Xbox 360 version of Red Dead Redemption is up by over 6100 percent in the past 24 hours following the announcement. The Game of the Year Edition’s sales are up by over 1800 percent. Rockstar has confirmed that the original game, Undead Nightmare and the Game of the Year Edition would all be backward compatible. It can also be purchased via the Xbox Store.

Fans have been ask for the Xbox 360 version of Rockstar’s open world action adventure Western to support backwards compatibility on the Xbox One. While this doesn’t mean the PC version or sequel is coming anytime soon, at least it shows that Rockstar cares enough about its fans to bring back the Xbox 360 version.

Will you be picking up Red Dead Redemption and playing it on Xbox One? Let us know in the comments.

In celebration of the Undead Nightmare retail disc package that was just released for Red Dead Redemption and includes all previous DLC, Rockstar Games is having a double XP weekend event for this Thanksgiving Holiday. The event actually starts this Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, and will run through the rest of the holiday weekend up until the 28th. The Undead Nightmare retail disc will run you $29.99 in the U.S. and the U.K. will have to wait until November 26th to see its release costing £24.99. Fortunately you don’t need any DLC or retail discs to participate in the double XP event. The retail disc however is stand alone and you won’t need the original RDR disc to play all the DLC, just pop it in and play. Just a reminder for those who are interested in the Undead Nightmare DLC, it specifically adds the following to the game:
