Valhalla's multiplayer shooter will be arriving in North America after all.

Nintendo of America and Valhalla Game Studios have laid to rest rumours of the former not publishing Devil’s Third in North America by announcing a release date for the third person multiplayer shooter. It will be heading to the Wii U eShop in Q4 2015.

That’s not all though. Devil’s Third will be receiving a PC version which will be a “free to start” multiplayer-only title that will release “in various regions around the world following the release of the Wii U version in each region” from September onwards.

Valhalla also noted that for Devil’s Third Online, “In consideration of cultural characteristics in each region, the content is being optimized via co-development with local publishers. Service territories and the details of game content will be announced accordingly.”

Meanwhile, players can look forward to the Wii U version in Japan on August 4th with Europe receiving it on August 28th. Thoughts on the shooter? Let us know in the comments.

You and tens of thousands of other players will be fighting to control North America.

Though Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki showcased what Valhalla Studios’ third person shooter Devil’s Third looked like all those years ago, we didn’t really know what it was. As the game resurfaced at this year’s E3, along with announcement that it would released exclusively on Wii U, Itagaki spoke to Famitsu (translated by Kotaku) and finally revealed the game’s premise.

“At first, you start from the position of a citizen, and all you have as weapons are metal pipes and normal guns. Insurgencies are happening everywhere, so you can try the road of the lone mercenary, or you can find allies and build up your own vigilante group or armed organization – clans or guilds, you could call them.

“So it’s a massive shooter where tens of thousands of people play trying to control the North American land.” You’ll playing from the perspective of a Soviet force if that helps. Devil’s Third’s multiplayer modes will support up to 16 players and we’re guessing these conflicts will play out over a larger scale. What do you think about the game? Let us know below.

Tomonobu Itagaki says things are getting "interesting for Nintendo" as well with concerns to featuring violent games.

Of all the announcements at E3 2014, Valhalla Studios’ Devil’s Third – created by Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki – being exclusive to the Wii U was the most unexpected. Originally meant to be published under THQ before the company went bankrupt, the game was in development limbo for several years before finally being announced for the Wii U.

Speaking to Polygon, Itagaki said that with concerns to working with Nintendo, “There are also cultural differences between the way that I’ve worked and the way Nintendo works, which is when it comes down to the basic grammar of games, the method of game creation. And so we certainly fought some, but I think that I saw the value in a lot of the ways that they do things and learned a great amount.

“Now this is close to a trade secret so I can’t say too much, but I feel like I learned the most fundamental meaning of what it means to push a button. When you tell someone, ‘Push the A button,’ there’s a wealth of information there. And I feel like all of us who have worked on this project, as a result, have grown a bit.”

Itagaki also says that the game is exclusive to the Wii U due to support from Nintendo. “I’ve been able to continue working with Danny and others who love games and love game development. That’s been the most important thing that has continued to sustain this. I’ve certainly realized that, at the age of 47, I need to be able to work with mature partners, and thankfully I was able to find Nintendo as a partner.

“They really supported my vision, and when I saw the level of commitment they were bringing to the project, I knew I had to follow through with them. I think a lot of people might have been surprised that such a violent game was going to be released on a Nintendo platform. But I think that you can say, from a certain perspective, things are getting interesting for Nintendo as well, making these kinds of choices.”

Devil’s Third is slated to release in 2014 for the Wii U. Are you looking forward to it? Let us know in the comments.

Valhalla Studios' third person shooter is back and we're not happy to see it.

Former Ninja Theory boss Tomonobu Itagaki surprised everyone when he revealed that Devil’s Third would be arriving exclusively on the Wii U after being in development limbo for many years. He also showcased 22 minutes of gameplay from the same so you can check out the current status of it above.

Devil’s Third is essentially a third person shooter that focuses on sword- and gun-play. While we were initially told about the multiplayer, the demo above shows parts from the single-player campaign and the cover-based mechanics. Long story short, we’re not impressed but considering how long the game has been in development, it’s not that surprising.

Devil’s Third will be out on the Wii U in 2015 along with other big names like Zelda, Star Fox, Mario & Donkey Kong and much more. Will you be picking it up or should the man who fathered Dead or Alive have moved on to something else? Let us know your thoughts below.

No, we don't know how either.

In a spectacular and unexpected twist, Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki has revealed that his long in development third person multiplayer title Devil Third will be heading to the Wii U as an exclusive. This was confirmed during an IGN live stream show (via NintendoEverything).

Devil’s Third was showcased many moons ago with some early footage and is the first game that Valhalla Studios and Itagaki had planned after the latter left Team Ninja. The game was originally meant to be published by THQ but the publisher eventually went bankrupt and sold off its IPs. Last we heard, Devil’s Third was still in development but there weren’t any new details or footage to be revealed at this year’s E3.

That being said, is there any one who still cares about Devil’s Third at this point? Let us know what you think in the comments below and whether you’d buy it.

Valhalla Studios made news for obtaining it’s Devil’s Third IP back from THQ. It then went on to announce it’s expansion of the franchise beyond video games, such as the realm of anime and movies.

Plans for expansion haven’t halted there, however, as it’s been announced that Korean studio Doobic will be handling the PC and tablet versions of Devil’s Third.

CEO Satoshi Kanematsu stated in a recent press release:

We would also like to announce our decision to contract the development of the PC and tablet versions of Devil’s Third to Valhalla & Doobic Co., Ltd.

He also reaffirmed plans to expand the IP beyond games.

In addition to both home console and PC versions, Valhalla Game Studios plans to expand the Devil’s Third universe across a variety of digital devices and through various forms of entertainment.

Despite having no publisher, Devil’s Third is apparently close to end of it’s development cycle.

Valhalla Studios may not have found a publisher for Tomonobu Itagaki’s Devil’s Third – his first new title away from Tecmo – but that doesn’t mean they aren’t marching ahead with franchising it.

CEO Satoshi Kanematsu stated in a press release:

In addition to the home console and PC versions, we at Valhalla Game Studios intend to bring the Devil’s Third universe to a wide range of digital devices. We are also looking beyond the boundaries of video games and plan to work with other various forms of media, including manga, novels, animation and film, to create a blockbuster franchise.

It sounds like a good idea in theory. Then again, most games were often enjoyable, memorable and, well, released before they received adaptations and what have you. Perhaps they’re jumping the gun a little too early with these plans?

Devil’s Third is currently nearing completion and will be playable on XBox 360, PC and Playstation 3.
