The first batch of free games for Xbox One’s Games With Gold have gone live. That means Xbox 360 gamers can get their hands on Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes for free while Xbox One players get Valiant Hearts: The Great War.

Valiant Hearts will be available for free from October 1st to 31st while Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will be free from October 1st to 15th. Both games are critically acclaimed and present some fairly good deals, especially Valiant Hearts.

The next slate of free games include The Walking Dead: Season One for both the Xbox One and Xbox 360. While it will be made free for Xbox One from October 16th to November 15th, the Xbox 360 will receive it for free on October 16 till 31st.

Continuing with their strong showing for Games with Gold, Microsoft have prepared a rather good lineup of games available to Xbox gamers for October for free, as long as they are subscribed to the Games with Gold program. Xbox One owners get their hands on the excellent Valiant Hearts, a beautifully drawn and stylized story about the first World War, that Ubisoft released on the UbiArt engine last year; they also get the complete first season of The Walking Dead for free.

Xbox 360 owners also get the complete first season of The Walking Dead for free, and they also get Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes as well. Ground Zeroes was previously already available with Games with Gold for the Xbox One, so this is the first time that the Xbox 360 version of the game has been offered.

It’s not as strong a showing as Microsoft have had in the last couple of months, but it is still overall a good selection, and not something that I can find any reason to find complaint with.

Today, for a change, Ubisoft shows us how the game will play. The newest developer diary for the title shows the gameplay for the game, and how it is intertwined with the story.

“It is not a war game,” says lead designer of the game Julien Chevallier. “It’s a game about war through which we experience the World War I time period.”

We might see more of Valiant Hearts at E3 next week, so stay tuned.

Ubisoft’s Valiant Hearts: The Great War, their innovative puzzle-adventure game that is set during the First World War, will be releasing on June 25 for Xbox 360 and Xbox One over Xbox Live, and PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 over the PSN Store, and for PC. You can check out a new trailer above.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War uses a striking visual style that is powered and brought about by the UbiArt engine, the same engine that brought us Rayman Legends and the excellent, excellent Child of Light, released just last month for PC and consoles. The game is being developed byUbisoft Montpellier, the same people who brought us excellent games such as Beyond Good and Evil, Rayman Origins, and Rayman Legends- so you know it will be great.

Valiant Hearts launches next month for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms. No Wii U version has been announced (and honestly, considering how rapidly Ubisoft is pulling back its Wii U support, not very likely either).
