The Chinese Room has celebrated this announcement by giving us a look at its story and gameplay with a brand new trailer.

Developer The Chinese Room and publisher Paradox Interactive have announced that the Loose Cannon DLC for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be coming out on April 27th. Celebrating this announcement, the studio has released a new trailer for Loose Cannon, which you can check out below.

The trailer comes in at a minute and a half in length, and involves a shady conversation between a shady sounding character and Benny. We then quickly cut to some actual gameplay, with Benny going on a rampage against several enemies, and even finding himself in some ancient underground structures. The trailer ends with Benny impotently using his weapons against a golden statue while not being able to hit it at all.

The standalone DLC will put characters in the shoes of Benny Muldoon. The studio has explained that, “When we got the opportunity to create additional DLCs, Benny was the first character that came to mind for getting his own questline.” Loose Cannon will feature four new quests that largely revolve around the events that took place right after base game protagonist Phyre meets Benny in the quest “In Chains of Lead and Gold”, up until the events of “A Star of Cold Aspect”.

With a new character comes a new set of abilities. Benny will be replacing Phyre’s Glide, Telekinesis and Heightened Senses abilities with his own. The DLC also brings in a major change to gameplay. When using a gun, instead of shooting it through Telekinesis like Phyre, Benny can instead actually use his prized side-arm—a heavily modified custom made 9mm pistol. Benny can also make use of melee weapons, with each type of weapon offering its own moveset. Knives, for example, allow for quick stabs.

Benny can also make use of his Soaring Leap ability as his core traversal mechanic. Through this, the character can jump to great heights, and even Air Dash to cover larger distances while still in the air. His ability tree will feature many of the ones we already see him use in the base game, and will offer players new ways to take on challenges.

The Loose Cannon DLC will include a new set of Achievements and Trophies for players to collect, as well as two new cosmetic items that can be used by Phyre: Benny’s suit and sunglasses.

Loose Cannon is only the first DLC coming to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 this year. Back in January, The Chinese Room had revealed its content roadmap for 2026. February saw the first major update, bringing in a host of new cosmetics, facial hair options, enemy loot, and bug fixes. With Loose Cannon coming out later this month, the next DLC—The Flower and the Flame—is slated for release in Q2 2026. It will be accompanied by another major update, bringing in improvements to ranged combat, a photo mode, and a noir mode.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The title saw a muted reception when it first came out, leading to Paradox Interactive taking a $37 million write-down due to underwhelming sales. For more details, take a look at our review.

Former creative director Dan Pinchbeck also spoke about trying to figure out how to convince Paradox not to call the game "Bloodlines 2".

The Chinese Room – the studio behind a host of games including the recent Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 – was seemingly trying to figure out a way to convince publisher Paradox to name the game something else. In an interview with Cat Burton, former creative director and studio co-founder Dan Pinchbeck, who left in 2023, spoke about how difficult the prospect of making a sequel to cult classic RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines was to begin with, and how the studio was not equipped to do it.

Pinchbeck noted that a large part of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines getting the cult following it got was thanks to the unique time period during which it was released. It was a much more experimental time for video game releases, and he believes that more ambitious games could ship and still see their ambition celebrated despite them having numerous bugs and glitches. Along with 2004’s Bloodlines, Pinchbeck also pointed to 1999’s Shenmue and 2007’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl as examples of this.

“There was one of the producers – then at Paradox – I’m still friends with, he’s now with another publisher,” recounted Pinchbeck. “We used to sit there and go and have these planning sessions of how do we get them to not call it Bloodlines 2. That feels like the most important thing we do here is to come at this and say this isn’t Bloodlines 2. You can’t make Bloodlines 2. There’s not enough time. There’s not enough money. And Bloodlines 1 came out at a really interesting period in game development when it was the same time as games like [S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl] and Shenmue when you could ship a really ambitious game that was full of bugs and holes, was totally flawed, but the ambition was really exciting.”

“A lot of those games, they’re real cult games now, but they really weren’t very good when you actually broke them apart and analyzed them. Great ideas, wonderful ideas, players loved them. You couldn’t get away with it now. So trying to recreate that magic in a different environment felt wrongheaded. No one would be happy. You wouldn’t make people who love Bloodlines 1 happy and you wouldn’t make people who didn’t know about Bloodlines 1 happy because they’d never get Bloodlines 2 and they’d always get a flawed game that was built too fast and with not enough money.”

Ultimately, while The Chinese Room wasn’t quite equipped to make a Bloodlines sequel that fans would like, Pinchbeck said that the studio instead decided to go with a smaller-scale game that offered more dense gameplay, comparing it to Arkane’s Dishonored. To achieve this, he noted that the studio would have to cut back on the RPG and more open world from the original Bloodlines and instead offer a more focused experience that still appreciates the source material.

“So we kind of approached it from that point of view really of going well what can we do with the time and the money that’s available and at that point what actually pitched weirdly was kind of which you’ll probably make I mean the psychic scream of Bloodlines 1 players from across the net but I came in and went ‘We can’t make Bloodlines 2, we can’t make Skyrim, but we can make Dishonored.’ And if we kinda look at something which is NOT an RPG and is NOT fully open world, but is really tightly focused and true to the mythos, and it’s a good ride, we get a Bloodlines title out in the world, and then we’d started talking about saying, then what would the next big Bloodlines game look like after that, if that happened?”

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was released just last month to middling reviews. The title is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and you can check out more details in our review, where we gave it a score of 4 out of 10.

Paradox Interactive announced through an official post on its Discord channel that it will be making adjustments thanks to fan feedback.

Since developer The Chinese Room and publisher Paradox Interactive revealed that two of the playable clans in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be locked behind a day-one DLC priced at $21.99, there has been a fair bit of backlash from fans of the series. Paradox has now acknowledged this backlash, and has announced a change of plans with regards to locking the Toreador and Lasombra clans behind the Shadows and Silk DLC – which is also available as part of the game’s $99.99 Premium Edition.

While Paradox Interactive hasn’t yet confirmed what this change of plans would entail, a statement by a community manager has indicated that the two clans might be released as part of the base game rather than requiring an additional purchase of day-one DLC. The company has also stated that it will reveal more details about its change of plans “as soon as possible”.

“We are listening to your feedback about the Lasombra and Toreador clan access, and we’re making adjustments ahead of Launch to reflect this,” wrote community manager DebbieElla on the game’s official Discord channel, as caught by WCCFTech. “We will share more information about what this means as soon as possible. In the meantime, please join us tomorrow on Twitch at 17:00 CEST, where we’ll be showing off more of the game!”

Clans in the Vampire: The Masquerade setting are the closest that the RPG series gets to having classes for characters. A vampire’s clan defines many things for the character, ranging from their social standing to more gameplay-impacting things like what kinds of abilities they have access to at the beginning and what stats they start out with. The original Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, for example, featured seven distinct clans, two of which even had unique gameplay and story elements exclusive to them – the Malkavian and the Nosferatu.

At launch, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is slated to feature six clans in total, with four being available in the base game and two part of the Shadows and Silk DLC. These clans are the Brujah, Banu Haqim, Tremere and Ventrue for the base game, and the Lasombra and Toreador in the DLC.

The backlash against this decision was something any fan of the original Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, and even fans of the tabletop RPG that the games are based on, could have seen coming. Clans are considered one of the core components of the setting, and even in the tabletop game, presented new opportunities for story and gameplay. In the original Bloodlines, the player’s own clan is an integral part of what kinds of quests they have access to, with some clans even getting unique objectives and hints about the overarching story of the game.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. After a tumultuous development period, the game, which has even seen a change of hands in development teams, is finally coming out on October 21. For more details, check out the deep dive video released earlier this month, as well as a trailer showcasing the story of 1920s detective Fabian.

Players will get to explore the unlife of Fabian as he attempts to solve a mystery in the 1920s — one about his own murder — when they rest.

The Chinese Room has released a new trailer for upcoming vampire-themed RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. The trailer is part of a new series of videos that the studio plans on releasing every week until the October 21 release of the title. The first one of these, titled the Fabien trailer, focuses on the titular Fabien – a Malkavian detective that is stuck in protagonist Phyre’s head. Check it out below.

The character of Fabien is explored in depth whenever the player decides to rest after sunrise. In these times, the player gets taken back to 1920s Seattle and in the shoes of Fabien, who is out on his own to solve the mystery of his own murder. During these segments, players will get to experience a past version of the game’s main setting of Seattle, while also interacting with characters that, owing to the nature of vampires, might still be “alive” when Phyre wakes up after sunset to go have a chat with.

Since Fabien is a vampire of the Malkavian clan, some of his more unique quirks are showcased. The clan is well-known to often be downright insane, getting into conversations with inanimate objects and even having entirely separate conversations than what an NPC might be saying to them. This can be seen in the trailer with Fabien talking to a tape recorder, asking it what it has been eavesdropping on. Along with this, the trailer also gives us a glimpse a the mind manipulation abilities that Malkavians tend to have.

Unfortunately, unlike the original Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, the upcoming Bloodlines 2 will not feature Malkavians as a playable clan. Rather, the title will feature six distinct clans: Brujah, Banu Haqim, Tremere, Ventrue, Toreador, and Lasombra. Adding further problems to this, the studio has also confirmed that Toreador and Lasombra will only be available for those that buy the Shadows & Silk add-on pack, which also happens to be included in the $89.99 Premium Edition of the title.

For context, Clans are a key feature of the Vampire: The Masquerade universe ever since the first tabletop RPG rulesets were published. A good way to describe the concept would be to compare them with classes in fantasy RPGs. Clans typically represent where a character stands not only in vampire society, but also what kinds of abilities the characters have as well. Brujah vampires, for example, are defined by their brute strength and speed, and often tend to be frontline warriors and bodyguards. Ventrue, on the other hand, focus more on manipulating those around them, and can often be found in penthouse suites ruling over their own feifdoms.

After Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 saw an incredibly rocky development, with even the development teams for the game changing at some points, The Chinese Room, along with publisher Paradox Interactive, finally confirmed that it would be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 21 earlier this week. The announcement was made with a new trailer that also confirmed that pre-orders were live.

The new trailer for Bloodlines 2 focused on giving us quick glimpses of some of the combat from the highly-anticipated upcoming RPG.

Developer The Chinese Room, along with publisher Paradox Interactive, has released a new trailer for its upcoming first-person RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Along with the trailer, which you can check out below, a release date has also been announced for the title: October 21.

The trailer itself is quite short, but it does provide glimpses of gameplay, from hand-to-hand combat, to the use of vampire abilities, and even some blood sucking. Along with this, the trailer also shows off some of the enemies that the game will pit against players, including smaller creatures that attack in packs, as well as opposing vampires.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is coming to PC (via Epic Games Store, Steam and GOG), PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Last time we heard about the title was back in June when The Chinese Room had been hit with lay-offs. Despite these lay-offs, however, publisher Paradox Interactive had stated that the title was still on track for its planned October release.

While developer The Chinese Room hasn't officially confirmed the lay-offs yet, plenty of former employees have revealed it on LinkedIn.

Developer The Chinese Room has been hit with lay-offs affecting a number of employees that has not yet been confirmed by the studio. However, despite this, publisher Paradox Interactive has said that the studio is still on track to release Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 on October 2025.

News about lay-offs hitting The Chinese Room came to light thanks to a LinkedIn post by VFX artist Jamie Berry. In his post, Berry wrote about being affected by redundancy-based lay-offs. “The scourge of redundancy has struck, and so I’m looking for new opportunities,” wrote Berry.

According to Game Developer, another former employee, who worked as a technical producer at The Chinese Room, wrote, “We are none of us safe from the headsman’s axe when redundancy time comes around.”

While the lay-offs haven’t yet been confirmed by The Chinese Room, Paradox Interactive, in its statement, has been clear about the development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 being on track for its October release window.

“Development on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is unaffected by the recent staffing changes at The Chinese Room; the game is still scheduled for an October release,” a representative for Paradox Interactive, according to PCGamer. “We wish those affected the best of luck on their future endeavors.”

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was originally slated for release in the first half of 2025. However, the title has since been delayed, with the generally troubled development that the title has been facing, especially from before it came into the hands of The Chinese Room from its original developer, Hardsuit Labs.

Since development changed hands, the game has seen plenty of delays, from 2024 all the way to this year. In the meantime, The Chinese Room has also been releasing trailers for the title while also revealing more details. The most recent trailer, for instance, was released back in November, and gave us a look at the Camarilla Court and its political machinations.

The Court – controlling the city of Seattle from the shadows – will have quite a few members from across the different vampire clans. Some of the characters we got to see in the trailer include the Brujah clan’s Sheriff Benny, the Nosferatu clan’s Herald Tolly, and the Ventrue clan’s ex-Prince, Lou.

Back in February 2024, another trailer had been released giving us a look at some gameplay from an early mission in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. The trailer gave us a look at the protagonist – this time around playing as a Brujah – and how they could use their various abilities to sneak into an abandoned warehouse.

However, the protagonist is eventually spotted, and the trailer then showecased how players will have plenty of ways to take on enemies, either by sneaking past them by making use of distractions, or engaging them in direct, lethal combat. The trailer also gave us a quick look at how its system of player choice and their consequences will work.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Developer The Chinese Room says it will "make the most of the time to polish and ensure quality" for the upcoming action RPG.

When Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was re-announced with The Chinese Room as its new developer last year, it was given a fall 2024 release window, with publisher Paradox Interactive expressive confidence that the action RPG wouldn’t be delayed again. As many may have predicted however, the game has indeed been pushed back.

In a newly released development update, Paradox Interactive and The Chinese Room have announced that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has been delayed, and is now scheduled to launch at some point in the first half of 2025.

“Jointly with The Chinese Room, we have decided to extend development,” says Paradox’s deputy CEO Matias Lilia. “This decision gives The Chinese Room extra time to spend on the game to deliver the best Bloodlines 2 they can. The game is in a good place right now, and Paradox and The Chinese Room have decided to prioritize polish over release date.”

According to creative director Alexander Skidmore, Bloodlines 2 is currently “in a late production phase”, with The Chinese Room “mainly focused on iterating and polishing”. As per Skidmore, the additional development time will allow the studio to place added focus on polish and optimization, and even adding features into the game that they otherwise wouldn’t have had the time for- like adding more endings to the game.

“Our team at The Chinese Room will make the most of this time to polish and ensure quality,” Skidmore says, “while several of the team members will be ready earlier, allowing them to work on things we might not have had time for but are really passionate about. For example, we can now add more endings to the game, allowing it to be a more personal story.”

“The additional time also allows us to address feedback from our playtests in our user research lab, and also to address the feedback we’ve been getting from all of you in response to our dev diaries and videos.”

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC upon its release next year.

The base release of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will feature four playable clans, with two more planned for DLCs.

Developer The Chinese Room has unveiled the fourth playable clan in the upcoming RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2—the Ventrue. The Ventrue clan, currently still under development, is the final of four planned playable clans that will be available the game on release.

The Ventrue clan makes up the aristocracy of the Vampire: The Masquerade setting, and often makes up a large part of the leadership positions in Camarilla Courts all over the world. When it comes to gameplay, the clan has historically revolved around making use of social oriented abilities, like Presence and Dominate.

Not too many details about the Ventrue clan have been revealed yet, since the clan is still in its initial conceptual stages. Ventrue joins Banu Haqim, Tremere and Brujah as a playable clan in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.

The studio has also revealed that two more clans will be coming to the game as part of post-launch DLC, with one being a new way to experience the main campaign, while the other offers up a completely new story set in the game’s setting of Seattle.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is slated for release in Fall 2024, and will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The Banu Haqim clan in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will revolve around taking on battles in a more tactical manner.

Developer The Chinese Room has revealed that Banu Haqim will be joining the ranks of playable vampire clans in upcoming RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. The Banu Haqim clan focuses on stealth, stalking, and assassination. Check out the trailer for the Banu Haqim in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 below.

Rather than heading straight into fights, players that pick Banu Haqim as their clan of choice will instead have to focus on figuring out more precision and finesse in combat. In the setting of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, the Banu Haqim clan is one known throughout history as scholars, guardians, and warriors.

Last time around, the studio had revealed that the Tremere clan would also be playable in the game. The Tremere clan focuses on making use of complex abilities to control enemies’ blood to use as weapons against them. The game will also have the Brujah as a playable clan, focusing more on the melee side of combat with raw strength and speed.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is slated for release in Fall 2024, and will be coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

One of four playable clans in the upcoming RPG, the Tremere clan will let you control your enemies' blood, and use your own as a weapon.

The Chinese Room and Paradox Interactive have revealed plenty of new details on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 in the weeks since its re-reveal, talking about its design philosophies, narrative themes, neo-noir art style, the protagonist, and much more, and lately, has started sharing new details on the playable clans that will be available in the game. Last week, we got our first look at the Brujah clan, and now, the developers have offered a glimpse of the Tremere vampires.

Alongside a brief teaser that provides a glimpse of gameplay when playing as a member of the Tremere clan, The Chinese Room has also published a blog post that offers more insight into what players can expect. If you play as a Tremere vampire, not only will you be able to use your own blood as a weapon (like shaping it into throwing projectiles), you’ll also be able to control the blood of your enemies, from ripping it our of their bodies to boiling in their veins. As the game kicks off, the Tremere clan will be reeling from a recent attack on its main chantry, but through the clan is “injured”, it’s “far from fallen”.

The Tremere clan will be one of four that will be available in the game upon its release, with plans in place for two more that will be added post-launch, one of which will also come with “a completely unique Seattle story.”

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is set to launch in Fall 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and Paradox Interactive is pretty sure that it won’t be delayed this time.
