A friendly reminder to everyone that Wolfenstein as a series started on PC (okay, it started on the Apple II, but still). So of course, the PC version of Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is great. It’s well optimized, and the game runs well on the system.

But it’s also a bit of a mess in the sheer number of errors you can find yourself running into. A lot of this is stuff we can’t blame MachineGames for- after all, there are so many possible build permutations and variations for gaming PCs. But if you run into an issue, that’s not much comfort to you, is it?

Thankfully, we’re here to help with that. In this guide, we enumerate some of the more common errors Wolfenstein players run into on PC, along with some suggested fixes. Let’s get started.

But first, the specs.

The “Can I Play, Daddy?” (720p and 60 fps at low settings)

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770/AMD FX-8350 or better

GPU: Nvidia GTX 770 4GB/AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB or better

RAM: 8GB

OS: Win7, 8.1, or 10 (64-Bit versions)

Storage: 55GB

The “I Am Death Incarnate” (1080p and 60 fps at high settings)

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770/AMD FX-9370 or better

GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB/AMD Radeon RX 470 4GB or better

RAM: 16GB

OS: Win7, 8.1, or 10 64-Bit

Storage: 55GB

Please be advised that the following methods are to be used at the sole discretion of the system owner. GamingBolt or its staff members take no responsibility for problems that may arise or issues that may occur from trying the below. Always remember that official support is always the best support.

GENERAL FIXES

Generally speaking, some basic troubleshooting tips should always help you resolve whatever issue you are facing with the PC version of any game. The same holds true of Wolfenstein 2 as well. If you are running into problems, maybe first attempt the following steps, and if they don’t work out, look into some of the more specific fixes we have below.

Make sure the drivers on your PC are updated

If you have two GPUs, make sure you are using the discrete GPU instead of the integrated one

Set Wolfenstein 2‘s priority to High in the Task Manager

Turn off any background programs, including firewalls, chat clients, video recorders, and overlays

Try lowering visual settings on the game to see if that improves game performance

AMD GPU OWNERS

Wolfenstein 2 does not support non interlaced refresh rates- it is highly advisable that you disable interlacing if you have an AMD GPU before you stat playing the game.

BLANK MENU/TYPE NOT SUPPORTED

Go to Administrator/Savegames/MachineGames/Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and delete the save files

Disable and re-enable Steam Cloud Save Sync

Restart Steam

FULL SCREEN ERRORS

Disable ASync Compute if you run into full screen errors

BLACK SCREEN ERRORS

Disable the Steam Overlay (as well as any background programs you have) if you run into these

Note: Given that the wide range of PC hardware out there, the fixes mentioned here may or may not work for you. But it’s worth giving them a shot since these have worked for players who own the PC version of the game.

Some tech tips for Resident Evil 7.

Resident Evil 7 is available now, at last- the new game is a return to form for the franchise, and a AAA realization of the kind of first person horror games that we have seen populating the indie game space a whole lot over the last few years, especially on PC. In other words, this is a game that feels right at home on PC- and the good thing is, the PC version of the game is generally pretty damn neat, too.

There are, of course, some problems- given just how many configurations there are for a PC build, that makes complete and total sense. That said, that isn’t much comfort to you if you happen to run into one of these issues. Thankfully, if that happens, we’ve got you covered. In this guide, we walk you through some of the most common errors that people face while playing Resident Evil 7 on PC, and demonstrate how to fix them.

But first, the specs necessary to run the game:

MINIMUM:

OS: WINDOWS® 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)

Memory: 8 GB RAM

Some tech tips for Football Manager 2017.

Football manager 2017 is here, and for football fans, this is it- this is the game they will be spending the rest of the year on, with hundreds of hours clocked in. Of course, this is a PC release, so in spite of the fact that this is generally not much of a resource intensive game, there will be some errors and glitches out there making life difficult.

But you don’t have to let them get to you. In this guide below, we list out all the most common problems that Football Manager 2017 players have reported, as well as how to address and resolve them. But first, the minimum requirements:

OS: Windows Vista (SP2), 7 (SP1), 8, 8.1, 10 (1607) – 64-bit or 32-bit

Processor: Intel Pentium 4, Intel Core or AMD Athlon – 2.2 GHz +

Memory: 2 GB RAM

Graphics: Intel GMA X3100, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT or AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 – 256MB VRAM

DirectX: Version 9.0c

Storage: 3 GB available space

Please be advised that the following methods are to be used at the sole discretion of the system owner. GamingBolt or its staff members take no responsibility for problems that may arise or issues that may occur from trying the below. Always remember that official support is always the best support.

STARTUP ERROR

If you are using a dual GPU setup, make sure the dedicated GPU is the one that you run the game on

Make sure your anti virus and firewall aren’t blocking the game

Attempt to run the game as an Administrator (Right Click->Properties->Compatibility->Run as Administrator)

Make sure your Windows, Steam, DirectX, and drivers are all fully updated

MEMORY ERROR

Go to ~\Documents\Football Manager 2017. Go to ‘games,’ and find the save file that gives you a memory error when you try to play it. Right click, go to Restore Previous Versions, and click on Restore.

Delete the cache

Delete preferences

Verify the cache

If running the game on a 32-bit system, make sure that the total number of players in your game does not exceed 70,000.

BLACK SCREEN

In Steam, Right Click on Football Manager 2017. Go to Properties -> General -> Set Launch Options. Type this in the box: –no_exclusive_fullscreen. Apply and exit.

Note: Given that the wide range of PC hardware out there, the fixes mentioned here may or may not work for you. But it’s worth giving them a shot since these have worked for players who own the PC version of Football Manager 2017.

Some tech tips for FIFA 17.

FIFA 17 is an ambitious game- it may yet be the most ambitious sports game ever made. It’s ambitious enough that you are willing to overlook some minor problems it may have along the way. For PC players, especially, that includes a whole lot of technical problems in trying to just get the game to run.

While those mistakes can be ignored in favor of the quality of the larger product, those same problems can interfere with your enjoyment of FIFA 17, if they are not resolved. That’s where we come in- this guide will help you address some of the most common problems PC players are running into with FIFA 17.

But first, the specs required to run the game:

Minimum Specifications:

RAM: 4GB

Hard Drive Space Required: 15 GB

RESOLUTION FIX:

Go to C:\Documents\FIFA 17

Find the file fifasetup.ini, and open it with a text editor like Notepad

Put your desired resolution at the RESOLUTIONHEIGHT and RESOLUTIONWIDTH fields. Save and exit, and restart the game.

If you are playing the game on a laptop, make sure you are running the dedicated GPU while playing the game, instead of the integrated one

Turn off V-Sync, as well as multi-thread processing.

Turn off multi core processing options, such as SLI Crossfire

Add profiles for fifaconfig.exe and fifa15.exe in your GPU control panel

Run regedit. To run it, go to the Start Menu and type regedit in the search box. In regedit, change the value of these two keys from 1 to 0:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ WindowsNT\ CurrentVersion\ Windows\ RequireSignedAppInit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Wow6432Node\ Microsoft\ WindowsNT\ CurrentVersion\ Windows\ RequireSignedAppInit

CONTROLLER NOT WORKING

Download a third party controller option, such as x360ce

Extract the contents from the archive, copying x360ce_x64.exe in particular to FIFA 17‘s game directory

Launch the software, and under Controller 1, select Auto as your preference

Save and exit, and boot up FIFA 17

Note: Given that the wide range of PC hardware out there, the fixes mentioned here may or may not work for you. But it’s worth giving them a shot since these have worked for players who own the PC version of FIFA 17.

A few tech tips for PES 17's PC version.

This year’s PES is one of the best in years- and in terms of actually recreating and simulating the sport that it is based on, it may yet be the best game of its genre, ever. PES 17 is Konami and the PES franchise’s best foot forward, and is likely to win the series some new converts and fans as a result.

Unfortunately, the PC does not get this excellent game- the PC version of PES 17 is rather based on the far more limited, PS3 and Xbox 360 builds of the game. This means that you are getting a significantly worse and more inferior experience on PC with PES than you are on PS4 or Xbox One. Not only that, but the PC version suffers from a fair few issues, too. If you’re playing PES 17 on PC, and you run into any technical problems, this guide should help you resolve all of them.

But first, find below the minimum and required specs:

MINIMUM:

OS: Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 SP1, Vista SP2

Memory: 1 GB RAM

Graphics: DirectX 9.0c compatible video card. 1024MB Pixel Shader 3.0 (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 / AMD/ATI Radeon X1600 / Intel HD Graphics 3000 or better)

DirectX: Version 9.0c

Storage: 8 GB available space

Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

Additional Notes: 800 x 600 monitor resolution; 4x DVD-ROM Drive; TCP/IP 512 kbps or higher

RECOMMENDED:

OS: Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 SP1, Vista SP2

Processor: Intel Core i3 530 / AMD Phenom Ⅱ X4 925 or equivalent processor

Memory: 2 GB RAM

Graphics: DirectX 9.0c compatible video card. 1024MB Pixel Shader 3.0 (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 / AMD/ATI Radeon HD4850 / Intel HD Graphics 4000 or better)

DirectX: Version 9.0c

Storage: 8 GB available space

Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

Additional Notes: 1280 x 720 monitor resolution; 8x DVD-ROM Drive; TCP/IP 1.5 Mbps or higher

Please be advised that the following methods are to be used at the sole discretion of the system owner. GamingBolt or its staff members take no responsibility for problems that may arise or issues that may occur from trying the below. Always remember that official support is always the best support.

FPS DROPS AND STUTTERING

For a game with requirements as low as PES 17, and for simply being as unintensive as PES 17 is, there can be quite a bit of stuttering and frame rate drops in that it suffers from.

If it happens to you, and you are using an Nvidia GPU, you may wish to try the following steps to see if they work for you:

Open the Nvidia Control Panel

Go to 3D settings

Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance

Nvidia owners may also wish to try the following:

Go to Program Settings in Nvidia Control Panel, and find settings for PES 17.

Run the game with these settings: Maximum pre-rendered frames: 4; Vertical Sync: On; Triple Buffering: On

Finally, if you are playing the game on your laptop, you need to look into switching from your integrated GPU to your discrete one, as well.

DIRECTX ERROR

This one is as simple as they come- if you are having trouble running the game because you get DirectX errors, your build of DirectX is either outdated, or corrupted. Download a new DirectX build, and reinstall to upgrade or repair it- this should resolve the problem.

STARTUP CRASHES:

Startup crashes in PES 17 are relatively uncommon- if you are running into some, it indicates that you’ve got some corrupted or outdated drivers which are interfering with the running of the game.

Make sure your OS is updated to the latest build

Download and install the latest version of Steam

Make sure that you have the latest version of drivers installed for your GPU

If the game is still giving you trouble, download and install the Driver Scanner, a tool that updates the drivers on one click. It should be able to detect the offending drivers, and upgrade them in a jiffy.

DLL ERROR

Much like startup crashes, DLL errors ultimately come down to missing or corrupted DLL files. The trouble is, figuring out which DLL file is going rogue is pretty much impossible to figure out, especially since a lot of DLL files are not generated from any specific source.

The fix is to use the DLL Files Fixer found here.

Make sure you note the specific DLL file noted in the DLL error message that the game generates

Input that file name into the DLL File Fixer when it is running, and the tool should install the file for you afresh, meaning you now no longer have to worry about DLL errors.

Note: Given that the wide range of PC hardware out there, the fixes mentioned here may or may not work for you. But it’s worth giving them a shot since these have worked for players who own the PC version of World of Warcraft Legion.
