Blue Manchu’s unorthodox first person shooter Void Bastards will be receiving some new content in the coming days. The developer has announced a free challenge mode, along with some paid DLC. The latter will bring a new organization, new weapon, and some new ships to explore.

Some of the challenges will include sneaking past “super tough enemies”, relying on “amped up” authorization skills for controlling a ship, managing a “super fast but hard to control client”, and much more. There’s no release date yet, as the developer is working out the details. So stay tuned for more on that front.

As for the paid DLC, it will feature a new opponent, with the organization Nemesis teased. There’s not much else to glean about the DLC, but details on a new weapon will be revealed this week. What are some of the new rewards that can be expected? We’ll have to wait and see on that front.

Blue Manchu’s rogue-lite first person shooter Void Bastards is now available for Xbox One and PC via Steam. Taking inspiration from System Shock 2, the title sees players leading a group through the Sargasso Nebula in an attempt to escape. This is done by going from one derelict ship to another, deciding which enemies to fight and what to salvage.

Each derelict offers its fair share of hazards and decisions to make. Throughout the journey you’ll scrounge up different supplies to improve your weapons, creating rough-shod weapons like the clusterflak. Just remember to use those resources wisely – you never know when you’ll need them next.

The rogue-lite element of the game replaces your character, if they die, with a new one carrying random stats and traits. Crafting progress is maintained throughout the experience, so eventually, you’ll find a way to escape the nebula. Void Bastards is also available on Xbox Game Pass, so for $5 per month, you can check out the entire experience and play a bunch of other titles on Xbox One.

Every month, Microsoft continues to add great new titles to its already excellent Xbox Game Pass lineup, and soon, a great deal more will be joining the subscription service’s library. Taking to Twitter via the official Game Pass handle, Microsoft confirmed the looming new additions to the catalog.

We’ve already reported on two of these in recent days- Void Bastards is out on May 29, while Outer Wilds launches the day after that, and both will be joining the Game Pass catalog at launch. The incredible shooter Superhot joins the lineup on June 6, while Stoic Studio’s Banner Saga games will be doing so as well, with The Banner Saga going live tomorrow, May 23, and The Banner Saga 2 following suit on June 6.

Full Metal Furies will also be among the games coming to Game Pass on June 6, while a week before that, Dead by Daylight will be going live, on May 30. Finally there’s Metal Gear Survive, the Metal Gear game we never wanted- but hey, if it you want to give it a try for free, now’s your chance to do so. It joins Game Pass on May 23, which is tomorrow.

Strategy shooter Void Bastards has a release date. It’s out on May 29th for Xbox One and PC. Inspired by the likes of System Shock 2 and Bioshock, the title sees players leading a group throughout derelict starships, battling enemies, and accessing anything useful.

You’ll have to make careful decisions, like whether to enable power, locate supplies, and when to run away from foes. Scavenging for food and fuel will also be necessary, especially given the void whales, pirates, and other nasties roaming the Sargasso Nebula. Elements of rogue-lite titles can also be seen, as players receive different prisoners to play as with random traits that will carry on when the previous character dies.

Overall, the campaign will take about 12 to 15 hours to complete according to the developers. Void Bastards will be available for Xbox Game Pass on the same day as PC, so if you’re a subscriber, you can try the game out to see if it’s worth your while. Taking a page out of Nintendo’s playbook with the Nindies Showcase, Microsoft has announced ID@Xbox Game Pass. Premiering on March 26th, the stream will shine a spotlight on all the indie titles that are coming to Xbox Game Pass in the future. It will start at 9 AM PDT.

The recent announcement promises new reveals, developer discussions, and gameplay. In the debut episode, players can expect to see more of titles like Afterparty, Void Bastards, and Supermarket Shriek. The team will also visit Afterparty developer Night School Studio to go behind the scenes with the game’s development.

Microsoft has been doing a fairly good job of including indie titles in the Game Pass catalogue. Recent months have seen titles like Below, Ashen, Vampyr, and so on being available on the service, increasing its value even further. When you also consider that Microsoft has a consolidated subscription service for all these releases, it could have somewhat of an advantage over Nintendo’s Nindies. Time will tell though, so stay tuned.
