Saber Interactive creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick also assured that both are "definitely not competing for resources."

After reaching seven million players (and counting), Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is only just getting started. Saber Interactive announced a second year of free updates and paid DLC, including a new Operation later this month. However, Space Marine 3 is also in development, which may create concerns about one taking resources away from the other.

Creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick assured this wasn’t the case in the latest Deep Strike episode on Warhammer TV (via IGN). “Announcing a third game doesn’t in any way mean that we’re not going to continue creating content for the existing game,” he explained.

“The thing is, the development cycles for these projects are long. For Space Marine 2, it was something like four years. And so, for Space Marine 3, it’s going to be the same.”

So why announce it so early? To reaffirm its commitment to the franchise, which it’s also doing with continued support for the current game. “We announced it in one way, to keep people aware of the fact that we’re going to continue this, that there’s going to be more coming. But we’re also doing the same thing with DLC. There’s a lot that’s already been created, and there’s a lot more to come. They’re definitely not competing for resources.”

This statement echoes what publisher Focus Entertainment said months ago. “No teams are shifting over, no one is abandoning the game, and our plans to bring more awesome content to Space Marine 2 remain.” The latest roadmap includes the new Techmarine Class and a Battle-Barge expansion in Q1 2026, two new PvP arenas in Q2 2026, and lots of cosmetic packs.

While the point about Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 having the same development cycle might raise some eyebrows, it’s likely working off much of the engine work from Space Marine 2. Of course, that doesn’t mean Saber Interactive can’t expand on that further, implementing improvements and going even bigger with its set pieces.

Developer Saber Interactive says it is not done with Space Marine 2 post-launch support yet. "Far from it," the studio says.

Given the success that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has enjoyed, it didn’t come as a huge surprise when developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment announced earlier this month that they had started working on Space Marine 3. But though the first steps have been taken in Space Marine 3’s development, Saber isn’t quite done with Space Marine 2 just yet.

In a message published on the official Focus Entertainment forums, the publisher has offered assurances that work on Space Marine 2 post-launch content is “far” from over. More content for the third-person shooter continues to be in the works, with Saber and Focus looking to add new weapons, operations, a class, and more in the coming months, including “surprises even dataminers haven’t found out about.”

“Let us set the record straight: Space Marine 3 does not mean the end of Space Marine 2‘s development. Far from it,” Focus’ message reads. “No teams are shifting over, no one is abandoning the game, and our plans to bring more awesome content to Space Marine 2 remain. We are working on much more content and surprises for the months to come, such as a new class, more operations, melee weapons, and more! Trust us, there are surprises even dataminers haven’t found out about.

“This announcement simply marks the genesis of a new project, years away from release. We’ve made a decision and have just started the process.

Focus Entertainment says developer Saber has “just started the process” of working on Space Marine 3, a project that, according to the publisher, is still “years” away from completion- which means Space Marine 2 is in no immediate danger of being put on the backburner.

Space Marine 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Read our review of the game through here.

Saber Interactive and Focus are at the helm again, promising a new campaign with "bigger battles, more action and more enemies to purge."

Games Workshop has announced that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 is officially in development. Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment (both responsible for Space Marine 2), it promises “bigger battles, more action and more enemies to purge.”

Players can look forward to an all-new campaign and new multiplayer modes. Details on the setting, factions and mechanics are “tightly under wraps” for now, and there’s no release date (though it’s “likely years away”). The platforms also remain a mystery. Based on the key art, at least Captain Titus is returning.

However, the press release says players can look forward to “innovations that will redefine the standards of third-person action games.” “We view this as an opportunity to create a true love letter to the Warhammer 40,000 universe.”

The companies will reveal more information when they can, so stay tuned. In the meantime, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review for the base game, which has over six million players.

Since its launch, the third-person shooter has received new multiplayer maps, Operations, weapons, and other features. Patch 7.0 is coming up but Steam players can try it out now courtesy of a Public Test Server. Head here for more details.
