Traveling on foot will soon become a thing of the past (sort of) in Blizzard’s World of Warcraft. The developer has announced that it will introduce flying to Warlords of Draenor’s new regions. This follows patch 6.2 which bestowed an achievement to players for meticulously exploring the area on foot. With the newest patch, players with the achievement on one character will gain the ability to fly on all their level 90 characters.

Lead designer Ion Hazzikostas stated in a blog post that exploration on the ground was key to experiencing many of the game’s most memorable moments. However, keeping that in mind, “we also recognize that breaking free from those restrictions can be fun and rewarding as well, especially for those who’ve already fully experienced the game’s world content.

“With that in mind, we’re planning some changes in the near future that will allow players to enjoy their hard-earned flying mounts in Draenor – in a way that doesn’t compromise the excitement of ground-based exploration.”

While Bungie fans bemoan the lack of any new raids in the upcoming House of Wolves, World of Warcraft fans will be receiving a ton of new content in the upcoming 6.2.0 patch for the game.

Blizzard has announced that along with a new zone – the Tanaan Jungle, which houses “rare creatures and hidden treasures” – there will be new daily quests, a new shipyard for building vessels and embarking on naval missions, and resources to gather. There will also be a new raid called the Hellfire Citadel which contains 13 bosses to slaughter and loot for more powerful equipment.

Warlords of Draenor will be receiving a new Mythic difficulty for its dungeons which will act as a separate progression path and offers level 680 gear. There will also be chances for the bosses to drop level 700 loot. These dungeons have a weekly lockout though so you can’t farm them continuously.

Following the trend of nearly every single major title this season, Blizzard Entertainment’s Warlords of Draenor expansion for World of Warcraft was beset with server issues when it first launched. Those who have faced such problems will be compensated by the developer though as World of Warcraft executive producer and VP J. Allen Brack announced five extra days of game time for players’ accounts.

If you’re account in was active in North America, Oceania and Europe was active on November 14th and faced issues including bugs and long loading queues, then you’ll benefit from the free game time. Meanwhile, Blizzard is working to improve the overall server population for up to “double the prelaunch capacity.”

The launch of Warlords of Draenor has been pretty huge and along with bugs, the game also suffered from a DDoS attack that took down servers. We’ll keep you updated on other fixes and improvements so stay tuned for more details.

Will World of Warcraft ever die? Probably not. After multiple successive quarters where Blizzard lost subscribers, they finally started regaining them again this last quarter, just as their next gen, long in development, MMO, Titan, was canceled. And right in time too- this year, a new World of Warcraft expansion is releasing, and Blizzard is doing everything it can to ensure that it revitalizes interest in the nearly decade old MMORPG.

Of course, that also includes conventional methods such as TV advertising. And these three TV ads are something you should be seeing a lot of if you live in North America, as Blizzard will be bombarding the airwaves with these ads constantly over the next few weeks, until the release of this game.

Warlords of Draenor will launch on PC and Mac. Blizzard is currently offering World of Warcraft, plus every single expansion pack ever, for just $20, to get players primed for this new one.

Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft may never reach the magnanimous levels of success it had before but it’s still the most successful MMORPG currently. There’s been concern about dropping subscriber numbers but recently, the game added 600,000 subscribers for a total of 7.4 million subscriptions in total. Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia noted to investors that this was due to the upcoming release of the Warlords of Draenor expansion.

Warlords of Draenor is significant for not only increasing the level cap to 100 but also in improving visuals, adding new features and gameplay, and other new additions to the game. Ahead of this, World of Warcraft received the Iron Tide update which added the Iron Horde Incursion world event along with character and class changes.

Blizzard Entertainment will be releasing a new content patch for World of Warcraft before the release of its next expansion Warlords of Draenor which allows you to bring back deleted characters. They’ll have all their gems, items, enchantments and abilities as well.

Terms and conditions apply though – you’ll only be able to bring back characters over level 10. Any character between level 10 and 29 can be brought back within 90 days of deletion. Characters between level 30 and 49 can be recovered within 120 days and characters that are above level 50 can brought back at any time. It’s also worth nothing that Death Knights that are only above level 55 can be brought back from deletion.

It’s hard to have the kind of success that Blizzard Entertainment has had with World of Warcraft, which in itself is amazing since the game is a subscription-based MMORPG. There have been bumps along the way including dwindling subscriber numbers and criticism of mechanics but for the most part, Blizzard has been able to attract new players with its expansion packs

However, there may not be much growth this year when Warlords of Draenor releases. Lead game designer Tom Chilton stated that, “We really don’t know if it will grow again. It is possible, but I wouldn’t say it’s something that we expect. Our goal is to make the most compelling content we can.

“By building expansions, you are effectively building up barriers to people coming back. But by including the level 90 character with this expansion, it gives people the opportunity to jump right into the new content.”

During its recent earnings report, Activision Blizzard reported that popular MMO World of Warcraft had lost 800,000 subscribers in April to Jue 2014. The company reported a subscriber base of 7.6 million on March 31st and as of June 30th, there 6.8 million subscribers on board.

The publisher isn’t worrying though, reporting that most of these subscriber losses came from the East and that they were “seasonal”. There’s already great hype over the next WoW expansion, Warlords of Draenor which will be releasing this Fall and already has 1.5 million pre-purchases till date.

Activision Blizzard also revealed that revenue for World of Warcraft was up, though specific figures weren’t provided. There have been subscriber losses in the past for World of Warcraft – and plenty of competition from the likes of WildStar and The Elder Scrolls Online – but the MMO juggernaut continues to roll on regardless. “We’ve already started working on the expansion after [Warlords of Draenor]. We’ve never done that in the past. We’ve been doing one expansion at a time, sort of a very linear content creation model, and we’ve looked at ways that we can parallelize that. So that while we’re working on this expansion we’re looking at the new one.

“It’s going to be on us and our development team to continually look at ways to evolve the game and keep it relevant, and look for new ways of maintaining engagement within the game. We view expansions as a huge opportunity to do that,” he said.

“We recognize that we need to release them on a faster cadence than we have in the past. So we’re investing in the team and our resources to enable us to do that.”
