For the longest time, it had been rumored that the next game by Warner Montreal, the studio that brought us the underappreciated Batman: Arkham Origins, and the great Batman: Arkham Knight DLC would be a Batman game starring Damien Wayne.

Now, it seems like plans have changed, and their next game will be a multiplayer co-op open world game set in the DC universe, instead. According to Reddit user virgilhawkins17, based on some analysis of LinkedIn profiles, the next game by Warner Montreal is an open world co-op multiplayer game with single player elements, RPG mechanics, and some of the same things as in the Batman: Arkham games. Just in case the LinkedIn profiles are modified, you can check out the screenshots below.

Of course, for now, nothing is confirmed- but we can imagine that this game will hopefully be revealed (and released) some time soon. Let’s just hope it is a game that lives up to all the years of development that have gone into it.

Another Batman game, yay

It looks like Warner Montreal will not be releasing their unannounced Suicide Squad game, which we have been hearing about for so long, after all. Instead, it sounds like they have shifted all of their focus on the unannounced Batman game that was first reported on a little while back.

Kotaku reports that unnamed sources are confirming that Suicide Squad had been in development for at least two years, but that the game – which was planned on being a co-op game – failed to impress Warner Bros. executives, who axed the project. That, plus the general turbulence at the studio over the last year, involving multiple high profile departures, means that the studio is currently in no state to show off their next project.

That project will now be a new Batman game, focusing on Damien Wayne. Warner Montreal have already created Batman: Arkham Origins before, and they also worked on some DLC for last year’s Batman: Arkham Knight, so they should be well suited for the task. Hopefully, we get to see the game some time soon.

Remember the new Batman: Arkham game by Warner Montreal, starring Damien Wayne that was apparently in development that we talked about a little while ago? Well, it seems like we might get to see that game sooner than we expected. Kotaku’s Jason Schreier has shared some information about the game on his Twitter, and he has admitted that while he was wrong about a possible TGA unveil for the game, that only was because his sources tell him the game is due to be revealed in early December, and he just connected the dots.

But the game being revealed in early December still stands- which means that we will definitely hear about it in the next few days. The game will also apparently appropriate Monolith Soft’s Nemesis System into the gameplay, which should be fascinating to see.

Warner Montreal’s last Batman game, Batman Arkham Origins, was a pretty decent debut, so I can’t wait to see where else they take the formula.

Rocksteady may be done with the Batman: Arkham series, but that doesn’t mean that Warner Bros. will let their big cash cow die. On the contrary, it seems like they may already have a new Batman: Arkham game in development. As WCCFTech reports, the new series of videos by Warner Montreal, which discuss how the studio is expanding the DC Universe in video games, very heavily hints at a new Batman game.

Footage is shown from a new open world game in development, and in a recruitment video since removed, the character Batman was very clearly and prominently featured. The fact that the DualShock 4 controller is being shown as well seems to indicate that this is a new game, and not just Batman: Arkham Origins, since that game is simply not available on PS4.

If this is true, this would line up with rumors that Warner Montreal is working on a Batman game in addition to a new Suicide Squad one. Both of those games would be greatly appreciated, although hopefully, both are also steps up from how disappointing Batman: Arkham Knight last year turned out to be.

Return to Arkham.

Batman: Arkham Knight was a great game, but in the end, for a lot of players, all it did was make them miss the far superior Arkham games that had been released on the previous generation, and were entirely unplayable on the current generation of consoles- Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are both frequently cited as better games than Knight, and even Origins is considered to be pretty good.

So if you wanted to play through those games – again, or for the first time – you may be in luck. According to a tip that Eurogamer have received, Batman: Return to Arkham will be launching on PS4 and Xbox One in June. The collection will include Arkham Asylum and Arkham City (though not Arkham Origins), both with upgraded visuals, and all DLC included. The collection has also been rated by European game rating board PEGI.

So, yes- if Knight disappointed you, you are highly encouraged to give Asylum and City a go. Maybe then you will understand what the big deal was about the series in the first place.

Batman: Arkham Knight got its first piece of DLC today. It’s called A Matter of Family, and it takes place before the events of Arkham Knight, and lets you play as Batgirl. You’ll fight alongside Robin in the expansion, which is set in an amusement park.

“When The Joker kidnaps Commissioner Gordon and holds him hostage at the Seagate Amusement Park, Batgirl and Robin must fight against the odds to save him and avoid falling victim to The Joker’s sinister plan. Trained by Batman, Batgirl’s combat combines with unparalleled hacking abilities to take down enemies, manipulate the environment and solve puzzles,” said Warner Bros.

A Matter of Family can be currently got on PS4 and Xbox One- however, the PC version is delayed, thanks to that version’s infinite technical problems, which are still being looked into. The DLC was developed by Warner Montreal, the studio who got us 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.

Warner Montreal, the studio that brought us 2013’s entry to the Batman: Arkham canon with Batman: Arkham Origins, is currently hiring developers as it gears up to develop a brand new open world game based on an original IP, online job listings indicate.

The studio’s job page features listings for numerous roles that hint at this new game and its nature- a game designer, who will be “responsible for designing and driving development of specific features or systems for an open-world action game;” a technical director spec, who will be “working on a new IP project for next generation platforms;” and also, several references to Unreal Engine 4.

All this indicates that Warner Montreal’s next game is not a continuation of the Batman: Arkham series, which saw series custodian Rocksteady sign off with the just released Batman: Arkham Knight, but something new entirely. As to what that could be, it remains to be seen. Given that Batman: Arkham Origins was largely a good game, if a little too safe, I can’t wait to see what the studio has planned next.

Developer reveals all in exclusive interview.

Warner Bros’s Batman: Arkham Origins is one of the most anticipated releases of this year, being the third entry in a series that has gone on to be one of the most critically acclaimed of this generation. Ahead of the game’s release, we got to speak to the developers (Warner Montreal, so a different studio from the developers of the first two titles, which were developed by critical darlings Rocksteady) about the project, and we learned some fascinating, and frankly staggering, things about the scope of the title.

‘The Gotham City in Batman: Arkham Origins is more than double the size of Arkham City,’ said Michael McIntyre, gameplay director at Warner Montreal. ‘This includes two major regions: North Gotham and South Gotham and the bridge connecting them. There is a lot of space to explore. The length of the single player campaign will depend on each player’s play style but should meet the expectations of fans of the franchise.’

He also spoke about the boss battles in the game, noting that he anticipates that the new batch of boss battles will live up to the hallmark set by the previous two games.

‘The premise of the night of assassins offers many opportunities for memorable face-offs between Batman and the major villains that have descended on Gotham City on this one night. We definitely feel we have a great variety since each fight is tailored to the character involved. Some are larger-than-life spectacles and others are more intimate and strange. All of them are designed to put the player’s core skills to the test. We think many of our boss fights will be some of the most intense and satisfying sequences in the game.’

All in all, it sounds like a game to keep an eye out for.

Batman: Arkham Origins hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC later this year.
