A new image grabbed from the official Xbox site – which has since been removed – has indicated that Crytek’s Ryse: Son of Rome might be receiving a live-action web series. You check out the image below for an idea of what both companies are going for in terms of the look. The web series it rated Mature for blood and gore, intense violence, partial nudity, sexual content and strong language. Talk about ticking off everything on the list.

This would fit in with Microsoft’s current approach which is to ensure that nearly every one of its exclusive franchises has an associated TV show. Some of the more prominent examples revealed thus far include Quantum Break, Halo The Television Series, and now Ryse: Son of Rome.

Of course, the game will be launching on Xbox One on November 22nd. Will the web series follow shortly after? We’ll have to wait and find out.

It's all about the money.

Earlier today, 505 Games uploaded the sixth installment in the popular Payday 2 Web Series. This episode draws viewers further into the underworld starring Vlad and Gage, and special agent Griffen gets closer and close to CRIMENET. Griffin’s snooping prompts Bain to send Vlad to “talk” with her and get her to keep her nose out of other people’s business.

Payday 2 is a cooperative first person shooter game, which has spawned many web series similar to the one above. Honestly, as far as gaming series adaptations go, this one is pretty legitimate. The cinematography, acting and writing, while are a bit cliché to be sure are above what can be considered amateur level. At least the video game is plenty of fun.

If you want to check it out and haven’t yet, Payday 2 is available via direct download on Steam, Sony’s PlayStation network, and Microsoft’s Games on Demand. You can check out our official review of the game here.

An unofficial fan project is looking to turn Square's classic RPG into a live-action series.

An unofficial fan project has recently been launched on Kickstarter for what can be described as a dream project, namely Final Fantasy VII: The Web Series. Yes, it is exactly what you think it is – a web series dedicated to recreating a live-action adaptation of Squaresoft’s critically acclaimed, commercially successful and eternally famous Final Fantasy VII.

The funding will be for the first season which consists of 5-6 episodes of 15 minutes each. The crew is reportedly made of more than a hundred film industry professionals, with writer Xander Williams (who created the popular FFVII fan-fiction novel “The Jenova Project”) penning the screenplay.

With a target goal of $400,000 the project currently has $5,964 pledged by 165 backers with 29 days still to go. The funding will go into studio time, equipment and production, and paying cast and crew members. Check out the concept video below to see what can be expected in terms of tone, presentation and snippets of some of the characters.

Writer and director Anthony Pietromonaco talks about the web series, and further plans for it.

It seems we finally have some answers regarding the breakout web series for Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, produced by Manifest Film and titled “What Remains”. Given the professionalism and timing of the release, many assumed that the project was authorized by either Sony or Naughty Dog.

However, in an interview with MeerdanGames, writer and director Anthony Pietromonaco clarified things.

“This was not ordered by Sony or Naughty Dog. We took the initiative to create this on our own and are using it to represent ourselves and demonstrate our abilities to both the video game and film community.

“We took our own initiative in creating our own story, centralized around our own unique characters, taking place 10 years prior to the events of the game. We did this based on the information we had at the time, and as a result, some of this is still subject to change.” So you might see changes down the line to reflect the current storyline of the game.

As of now, Pietromonaco says that six episodes are planned and that Machinima has express interest in airing and producing the remaining episodes. The release of episode 1 is to be announced.

An unofficial web series looks to expand on Naughty Dog's dystopian universe.

Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us may look to be inspired by Image Comics’ The Walking Dead the influential post-apocalyptic novel The Road (with a dash of TV show Revolution), but it’s certainly coming into its dystopian own. Just recently, a web series project has emerged taking place within the same universe, titled “What Remains”.

When it’s taking place (within the context of the game universe) is unknown, but this is definitely The Last of Us universe – as if the appearance of the Clicker wasn’t enough indication. Produced by Manifest Film, the series looks incredibly well made and honestly, some of the clips on the project site look quite exquisite.

It’s unknown whether the makers have the support of Sony or even Naughty Dog, so take this as unofficial for now. However, even if it is fan-made, that shows how far The Last of Us is going in building fan anticipation.

Look for The Last of Us exclusively on PS3 when it releases on May 7th.
