At this year’s CES 2014, Wikipad Inc., known for their advancements in mobile gaming, unveiled their latest innovation aimed at legitimizing the mobile platform and bringing it up to par with its console competitors.

Their newest creation is called the Gamevice and acts as a controller addon to mobile units. The design of the controller is such that it allows for different sized devices and can adjust its size accordingly.

Fraser Townley, President of Wikipad had the following to say:

“We value the opinions of our community. We heard from many people who either expressed love for the Wikipad 7 or who already owned an iPad or an Android or Windows 8 mobile device and wanted us to make a controller that worked for them. We are currently working on versions for Windows 8 and Android devices. We have not forgotten other important OS systems and we hope to announce additional support for those in the near future.”

We heavily covered the Wikipad but now it looks to have been dropped off our radar, however, according to a new report by MTV Multiplayer it looks like the tablet could be surfacing again, with a few minor adjustments.

Wikipad is a tablet from Gamestop and Wikipad Inc. which was originally scheduled to be launched last year.

It is powered by Tegra 3, and also features a 10.1 IPS screen to offer phenomenal gaming experience on a tablet. It will also feature a quad core processor along with expandable memory and seems to be the first quality gaming tablet ever made.

The 10.1 inch screen has been shrunk to 7 inches now and the analogue sticks have been improved a bit.

“We wanted to get Wikipad into our community’s hands and what we found was that the smaller 7″ form factor just seemed right,” Wikipad executive Fraser Townley said.

“The smaller frame delivers an aggressive price while keeping the same amazing specs.”

The device will cost $249 and will be available in Northern Spring.

Wikipad, the stunning new tablet device from Gamestop, has been delayed to ensure consistent quality. The major retailer has informed their retail partners about this delay as well as people who pre-ordered the device, like the do for every other pre-orders.

Due to the inconvenience, people who have pre-ordered will get a refined and upgraded bundles as well as a special bonus gift, the Wikipad team announced.

“The Wikipad team has been relentlessly working with our manufacturers and partners to perfect the Wikipad bundle to ensure our first product is the best tablet and entertainment experience at launch. There is a last minute opportunity to enhance the Wikipad bundle as well as a minor refinement needed to ensure our first customers are completely satisfied with the Wikipad,” read the statement.

“We are very eager to deliver the Wikipad experience and are passionate about excellence. We apologize for this delay and want you to know that we are committed to bringing you the very best, high-end gaming tablet possible. We are in the final stage and will be announcing the new date soon.”

We also reported earlier that it supports Playstation Mobile platform, Google Play, and Nvidia’s Tegra Zone.

Gamestop has partnered with Wikipad, Inc. to distribute the first tablet with an attachable console quality controller through its store when it officially launches on October 31. The tablet supports Playstation Mobile platform, Google Play, and Nvidia’s Tegra Zone.

The Wikipad, as you can see in the image above, supports glasses free 3D. Yes, just like the Nintendo 3DS, and other glasses free 3D devices out there that use auto stereoscopic display.

It will be powered by Android 4.0, and features some decent specs. The screen size is 8-inches and it sports 1080p resolution. There are front and rear cameras, HDMI and USB 2.0 support. It contains 8 GB internal flash storage memory.

And yes, it is a mix of controller and a tablet. So there will be dedicated controls in the tablet itself.

There is no mention of price yet, but we will keep you updated.
