Are you convinced yet?

2K Games is slowly but surely attempting to convince people of the sanity of trying to make a shooter based on the X-Com universe. And while The Bureau: X-Com Declassified has rightly faced a lot of opposition and skepticism since its initial reveal, it’s beginning to look better and better as we learn more and more about it. Check out the newest video, a developer diary, on the game, and tell me if you are convinced. The entire idea still sounds unnecessary to me, to be honest, but at least I can say that the game they are making using the license looks fairly interesting and not just a cookie cutter cash in like many of us originally feared.

Except for the graphics. Those graphics look awful.

The Bureau: X-Com Declassified is due out on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Steam for PC, in August. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for further coverage.

Is a follow up for last year's classic incoming?

Last year’s reimagining/reboot of beloved PC classic X-Com: UFO Defense, X-Com: Enemy Unknown, was an incredible game, modernizing the old formula for contemporary sensibilities whilst still retaining its sense of identity. It was an excellent strategy game from a developer who is undoubtedly the master of the genre.

Of course, we don’t know whether the game will get a proper sequel- the upcoming The Bureau: X-Com doesn’t (and shouldn’t) really count, as it’s barely part of the same universe and not even the same genre. Looks like those fears might just have been put to rest by recent finds.

These recent finds are listings for X-Com: Enemy Within on Steam Databases, and on the Korean Classification Board’s website, which indicates that whatever it is, it is for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. I say ‘whatever it is’ because we are not sure yet if it’s a new game, or an expansion; the name certainly seems to indicate the latter.

How many of you played X-Com: Enemy Unknown? Did you enjoy it? Would a follow up excite you?

[Thanks CVG!]

Check out this new video for the upcoming shooter.

2K Games has gone ahead and released a new teaser video/alternate reality game for its upcoming re-imaging of the classic X-Com as a shooter, The Bureau: X-Com Declassified. Starring Lord of the Rings and Lost star Dominic Monhagan, the video shows him being presented with a choice to either take the gun, or to take bottle with some pills in it. Presumably, it a choice for what kind of a death he wants to choose for himself.

Of course, for the casual layman, this has absolutely nothing to do with the upcoming game, and tells him nothing about it. Essentially, this is just preaching to the choir. Moreover, of course, like many, I still am not convinced that X-Com needs to (or should) be reimagined as a shooter at all, particularly in the wake of the success of last year’s X-Com: Enemy Unknown.

The Bureau launches on Xbox 360, PS3, and Steam in August. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.
