"Not the most flattering name, but I think it's going to be there."

Despite Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb not being amused by the term “Xbone” to describe the Xbox One, even calling the name “disrespectful”, Microsoft Studios lead Phil Spencer says they’ve more or less come to terms with the fact that it’s not going to go away.

In conversation with GameSpot, Spencer stated that, “At first, I guess the thing that bugged me the most is I didn’t see it. I’d been looking at the name for Xbox One for months, and I wasn’t clever enough to merge them and come up with Xbone.

“I think it’s going to stick. I think we can say we don’t like it as much as we want, but it’s a clever use of the name. Probably not the most flattering name, but I think it’s going to be there.”

Microsoft also recently purchased a website with the name “Xbone” in it, no doubt wishing to own everything and anything related to the Xbox One’s name.

Despite Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb calling the nickname disrespectful, Microsoft has officially acquired the domain “Xbone.com“. Records on WHOIS confirm as much, and quite frankly, considering that it’s more or less the unofficial nickname for the console, at least this allows the company to control it. Or at the very least, to shut it down completely.

Will that stop people from calling it the Xbone though? Doubtful. But at least the reversals on their policies mean people are using it less to insult Microsoft’s console nowadays.

About the nickname, Hyrb for the record stated on NeoGAF that, “I don’t like it…it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself.”

Meanwhile, the Xbox One will be launching worldwide on November 22nd worldwide and will be competing head-to-head with the PlayStation 4, which launches on November 15th in North America and November 29th in Europe. Which console will you be looking forward to? Let us know below.

The next generation is all about open world gaming.

There were a lot of great games at E3 this year, and with a bunch of new titles being announced for the next gen hardware that’s being released in November we’ve got plenty of great games that a had big open worlds to check out. Some are brand new ideas, while others are simply improvements on mechanics, the scope of the game and general advancements that come with some wonderfully new and thrilling technical choices.

There are plenty of great games on there way already and we can’t even get our hands on the new consoles yet. I for one have been chomping at the bit just waiting for my PS4 to show up so I can play some of these titles that have not failed in getting noticed by the public. With this leap in hardware it looks like we’re going to be seeing as a lot more cross-platform titles too. So no matter what you choose, there is going to be some great new worlds to explore come November. Even if open worlds aren’t your thing E3 had so many titles to offer this year there was a bit of something for everyone.
