With Microsoft set to announce the next Xbox, which will compete with Sony’s next-generation PlayStation 4, one would wonder as to the amount of content that Microsoft will be showcasing.

After all, we do know that EA will be present along with FIFA and Battlefield 4, along with the gameplay reveal of Activision’s Call of Duty: Ghosts. This isn’t even counting the console itself, its new features and online services and the new Kinect.

But according to Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb on Twitter, the Xbox Reveal event will only be an hour long (which goes against previous reports on GAF that it would run for two hours).

FAQ: How long is the #XboxReveal event tomorrow? A: The show will be an hour long.

— Larry Hryb (@majornelson) May 20, 2013

Given how E3 is just around the corner, Microsoft might be looking to tease gamers right now while laying the full banquet out at E3 2013. Of course, tonight’s reveal could easily just be all about Kinect, social sharing and living room gaming. At least they’ll be showcasing the console though, right?

What are your thoughts? Did you expect the event to run for longer or is an hour enough?

Various suppliers have reported that parts for Microsoft’s next Xbox, which will be showcased tonight, have already begun shipping. Supplies anticipate that orders will increase by Q3 2013, with demand to spike in the fourth quarter. Digitimes reports that several electronic plants expect an increase in business as a result of the deal.

Some of the suppliers reportedly involved include Lite-On IT, Asia Optical and Newmax. While Lite-On is working on the optical drive, the latter are developing lenses (most likely for Kinect). Jentech Precision will handle the cooling system.

Reports also indicate that the next Xbox will be manufactured in China at Foxconn, which has come under controversy due to the number of worker suicides, employee rights violations and pathetic working conditions. More details to follow as the next Xbox is revealed tonight.

Spotted by NeoGaf a tweet from Battlefield teases a big announcement.

Check out the image of the tweet below:

It’s safe to assume that the big announcement/reveal will be happening at Microsoft’s Next-Gen Reveal event on May 21st, which is tomorrow. However, the question still remains on what could it be? Is it some-sort of multiplayer reveal, exclusive downloadable content for Next-Gen Xbox or something completely unexpected?

Electronic Arts has already confirmed FIFA 14 for tomorrow’s big show, it seems like EA will be going big with Microsoft. We could be speculating all day in all honesty and were less than twenty hours away from the event. The hype is rising, and teaser messages are coming in and out throughout the internet all day. The best thing we can all do is wait patiently in anticipation for something exciting tomorrow. Meanwhile, this is only the beginning because a few weeks after this E3 2013 will bring a hype-storm to the entire world.

EA finally reveals its hand.

When EA Sports announced FIFA 14, it stated that it would be coming out for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with announcements for other platforms to be revealed shortly. At first we thought this would be just for the Wii U and PS Vita versions, but what about a next generation reveal?

Apparently EA has just that in mind, when it revealed on its official Facebook page that the “next generation of FIFA” would be at Microsoft’s May 21st reveal event for the next Xbox.

This is most likely a next-generation version of FIFA 14. Would EA be crazy enough to release two completely separate FIFA titles, one for current-gen and one for the next generation? Doubtful.

However, they could easily make the next generation version of FIFA 14 so different that it could be viewed as an altogether different game. Or it could be a revisit of the “bullshot” controversy that dogged EA when it tried taking its sports games into the next generation around the Xbox 360’s release.

We’ll have to wait till tomorrow for the answers. Till then, stay tuned.

"E3 is all about the games" says Greenberg

M

icrosoft Interactive Entertainment Business Chief of Staff Aaron Greenberg recently teased next week’s Xbox Reveal event via Major Nelson’s podcast and how Microsoft will show its “vision for the future of games.”

“We’re really going to tell one story across two events. So we’re going to start on the 21st and really that’s about revealing the next Xbox platform, really our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment. We definitely have a lot of surprises planned.” Greenberg then specifically called out Call of Duty: Ghosts, which will have its next-generation engine demoed during the Microsoft event.

“People are going to get a great inside look at really the making of the new platform and the team that’s brought it to life,” Greenberg added. “I mean, to be honest it’s really about the team, the people here. That’s why we’re inviting people to campus, we’re going to bring them behind the scenes a little bit. We’ve never done this before and so it’s really exciting to be able to do that. But I think it’s a lot of laying the foundation – probably the best way to describe it – and then just a couple of weeks later we go to E3.”

Greenberg confirmed that E3 will be more about the next-gen Xbox games while the Xbox May 21st Reveal Event is more about the console, how it was developed and Call of Duty: Ghosts. “E3 is all about the games. At E3, I mean, if you’re a gamer, it’s going to be tons of exclusives, world premieres and obviously even beyond that we have a lot to share between then and this holiday.”

The next-generation Xbox event will be happening on May 21st at Microsoft’s Redmond campus, which is located in Washington state.

Let us know what you think of this and what are your expectations for the reveal event of the next Xbox in the comments below.

Check back on GamingBolt next week on Tuesday which is when the event will be happening for all the latest news regarding Microsoft’s next-generation console.

Via Major Nelson and NeoGaf.

Let the propaganda begin? Not quite. In preparation for Microsoft’s big reveal event on May 21st for the next generation Xbox console, the company has launched an official news blog Xbox Wire featuring posts from executives. The emphasis seems to be on everyday people working on Xbox however.

Even current director of Xbox Live Programming Major Nelson will make some appearances here and there, bringing blog posts along with interviews. The goal of the site seems to be to detail the journey of those working behind the scenes to make the Xbox brand a success.

So we can’t really fault the end goal. And anyway, the site is still in beta mode and will fully launch on May 21st when the next Xbox is revealed. If Microsoft deems it necessary to launch its own news site for covering everything related to the next generation console, then one wonders just how much they plan to show off.

This makes it the 28th consecutive month on top.

Despite dipping hardware sales on a year to year basis, and an overall 42 percent decrease of hardware sales in the US this past April, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 managed to sell 130,000 units. This makes it the 28th consecutive month that the console has outsold its competitors in the United States.

It currently holds a 42 percent share of the current generation console market, with total retail spent on the console in April – which includes hardware, software and accessories – having reached $208 million.

As Sony preps announcements for the PS Vita and hypes the PS4, besides having declared the existence of Gran Turismo 6 for this year on the PS3, Microsoft is still holding quite a bit of momentum as far as the reveal of its next Xbox is concerned.

Microsoft will be debuted its next generation console on May 21st to the world. The device has thus far been codenamed Durango, Xbox 720, Infinity and much more.

Take-Two excited for Grand Theft Auto V and next-generation unannounced IPs

According to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, the company is excited to launch Grand Theft Auto V later this year and that they’re getting ready to transition to new-generation of consoles as the PlayStation 4 and the unannounced Xbox get ready to launch this Holiday season. This is what he had to say regarding Take-Two’s financial success, future franchises and the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5:

“Our industry appears poised to enter an exciting growth period driven by the upcoming launches of the next-generation consoles, as well as the increasing popularity of emerging mobile and online platforms,” said Zelnick during the financial call.

“Fiscal 2014 promises to be one of our best years ever, highlighted by the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto V in September.”

He continued, “We also have a extraordinary pipeline of titles in development for next-generation platforms, including groundbreaking new intellectual property and releases from our proven franchises.”

“Take-Two delivered strong revenue growth and solid non-GAAP earnings for fiscal year 2013, driven by robust demand for our groundbreaking new releases, iconic catalog titles and expanding portfolio of digitally delivered offerings,” said Zelnick in the earnings report.

“Looking ahead, we have an extensive pipeline of next-generation and emerging platform titles in development, including both new intellectual property and releases from our proven franchises. As a result, our current outlook is to be profitable on a non-GAAP basis in fiscal 2015 and for the foreseeable future,” he added.

Grand Theft Auto V will be launching later this year on September 17th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with a follow-up of a rumored PC version few months later.
Gears of War creator thinks Sony has "embraced a lot of the vibe thus far."

Former Epic Games designer Cliff Bleszinski recently spoke to Engadget about what the next generation of gaming would offer – aside from prettier graphics.

He responded that, “I have a very good relationship with Microsoft, but [there are] a lot of TCRs you’d have to go through, all the stuff you’d have to go through to get your game on Xbox Live Arcade, or even issue updates on; it was a nightmare.”

“They just announced that they’re doing some sort of presser with some of their future plans. I’m curious to hear some of them because it feels like Sony’s embraced a lot of that vibe thus far, as far as indie games go and whatnot. I feel like Sony’s really embraced that vibe, and [the] homebrewed and homegrown movement that’s really taken over.”

Microsoft will be revealing its next Xbox, rumoured to be called Infinity, on May 21st. Rumours are currently running rampant on whether the console will require a constant internet connection for playing games or not.
