“We’ve allocated an additional batch of incoming console inventory, enough to re-open flight registrations in the Xbox Insider Hub,” Microsoft said in the Reddit post announcing the program’s expansion. Users who previously signed up for the program but were not selected in the last round are already opted into the program, and do not need to take further action.

As before, limited space is available and not all who sign up will be chosen, as this writer can confirm from personal experience. The pilot program came into existence following comments made last year by Xbox head Phil Spencer, who said that the current issues would “push us to think about new models. It could be, reserve your slot. It could be doing things more direct with the customer. Still could have the retailer fulfill the order, but just so people can have more clarity on when they can get a console. It’s something we’re working on.” Obviously, Spencer made good on that promise.

Those lucky enough to be on the Xbox Insider program that get to check out early versions of upcoming firmware updates for Microsoft’s systems have found that a new update has been made to the Xbox One’s streaming capabilities, one that greatly resembles the Share Play abilities seen on PlayStation 4.

Taking advantage of Xbox’s Mixer.com streaming, players will be able to pass control of their game to anyone watching them play on the PC, where they will be able to take command of the game remotely with either a controller or an on screen gamepad.

You can check out more information on the Xbox Wire blog, but other neat features to come soon include the introduction of a Games with Gold section to the library, 1440p video output on Xbox One S and Xbox One X, updates to Microsoft Edge and open tournaments that players can join without a club.

Microsoft have announced that the Xbox Preview program – their Early Access program that lets users play games and go hands on with system updates early before their actual release – will be getting rebranded to Xbox Insider. It also seems like the program will be getting expanded to reflect and do justice to is new name.

The new changes will be made available to some Xbox Preview members who have so far been the most active at providing feedback. Over the new few weeks, they should be made available to everyone. If you fall under the purview of active Xbox Preview members, then your app should update automatically overnight.

Xbox Insider will soon be made open to everyone as well, instead of being invite based as it is right now. You can check out the full list of changes coming to the program for yourself below:
