This looks so much better.

The above is our first look at what the achievement interface will look like on the upcoming next generation console from Microsoft, the Xbox One. The news comes a few weeks after the release of the PlayStation 4’s achievement preview, but really it’s not a surprise given that the Xbox One has an extra week’s leeway in terms of release.

Not surprisingly, Microsoft has decided to keep in tune with their controversial “tile world” system of organization for the Xbox One achievement mechanic, and players will be able to view each of their unlocked achievements as a series of tiles on their Xbox One home screen

Achievements can be viewed in several organizational schemas, including the options to view in terms of the percentage of completed achievements per game, the overall list of unlocked achievements, or even sorting by the achievements of friends on Xbox Live.

Xbox One will launch on November 22nd in 13 regions across the world.

This trailer should go a long way towards convincing you.

Ryse: Son of Rome has been the subject of some ridicule since its unveiling, because of its limited interactivity, and its focus on shallow presentation and graphical finesse, but the newest trailer does at least a halfway decent job of selling the game to even hardened skeptics.

The three minute long trailer with a voiceover narration talks about the premise and setting for the game, before switching gears to talk about the CryEngine powering the game, along with the motion capture process and research that went into recreating its ancient Roman setting and making sure it all feels as authentic as possible.

Personally, the animations still seem off to me, and I can’t say I’m a fan of the kind of game this title is trying to be (see also: my distaste for David Cage games), but at least the premise looks interesting.

Ryse: Son of Rome will be an Xbox One launch title. Stay tuned for more coverage.

The next generation of achievement notification is less intrusive.

Open image in a new tab to see the ‘Challenge’ notification.

Update: This is actually Xbox One’s ‘Challenges’ in action. ‘Challenges’ are kind of similar to the Achievement system except that they have no Gamescore attached to them and are much more community oriented. The original title of this article was modified from This Is What An Achievement Notification Looks Like On Xbox One to This Is What A ‘Challenge’ Notification Looks Like On Xbox One. Thank you to one of our readers for pointing that out in the comments.

Original Article:

With the launch of Microsoft’s next generation console, Xbox One, developers have changed the way achievements are going to be notified during gameplay. If you look at the Xbox 360’s achievement notification, some players may term that as pretty intrusive but Microsoft have made sure it is different this time around.

The new achievement notification now pops up in the top right corner. This helps the player to remain focused on the gameplay. We actually like what Microsoft is doing here. The image above was captured during the live developer stream of the upcoming Xbox One exclusive Project Spark.

You can check it in motion in the video below. Just jump to 3:55 minutes to see the new notification system in action.

In addition Microsoft intends to use and study player’s data to implement dynamic achievements. This could result into some interesting gameplay mechanics and may increase replay value of various games if the team at Microsoft gets it right.

Xbox One is due November 22nd. What do you think of the new notification system? Let us know in the comments section below.
