Oh dear.

We just reported how Xbox Live experienced outages last night as the result of an alleged DDoS attack on the service by the group of hackers who call themselves the Lizard Squad. In the wake of that outage (now ended), it appears that a few fake Xbox Support Accounts are now harassing and abusing Xbox users.

Twitter account @XboxSupportPST has been responding to Xbox Live subscribers following the online attack with rather crude and abusive remarks, that are sometimes sexist and racist in nature (link withheld). These remarks include (profane language censored): “F*** You,” and “light your pubes on fire and kill your family.”

When the actual Xbox account was made aware of this fake, they said, “That is not an official account, I’m afraid. We’ll look into it but best to ignore them and come straight to us.”

This sounds like smart advice to me. I do wonder why Twitter has not banned the other account yet.

"More information coming soon" though.

We’ve documented the lack of a clear message in Microsoft’s Xbox One marketing campaign. From used game fees being charged to the decision being left up to publishers and information on the Family Policy that Microsoft is pushing, the Xbox One is quickly turning into a PR nightmare for the company.

Now information on launch countries has become the next target. Or rather, Xbox Support’s lack of information on anything. More than a few users tweeted about being able to pick up the console in a supported country and whether the console would still work if they moved to another country. The response is the same though.

@Guidolhm We don’t have information on that right now ^JG

— Xbox Support 2 (@XboxSupport2) June 16, 2013

Microsoft’s Family Policy also stated that a single Xbox One could have 10 different users on it, accessing the same game library (though – again – there’s confusion on whether concurrent use is allowed). However, does that extend to Xbox Live across multiple consoles? No information.

@elohkb With Xbox Live Gold on any Xbox One account anyone in your home can also access Gold benefits at no additional cost. ^AR

— Xbox Support 2 (@XboxSupport2) June 16, 2013

@elohkb We don’t have specific details on that, please stay tuned in the coming months for more info ^JX

— Xbox Support 2 (@XboxSupport2) June 16, 2013

And despite the fact Phil Spencer himself stated that you can have close friends and acquaintances along with family members on the same console, Support still seems clueless about whether this is possible.

@Heliyum_ We’ll have more information on that coming very soon ^JG

— Xbox Support 2 (@XboxSupport2) June 15, 2013

Of course, tech questions are out of the, er, question as well.

@thetalboski We have no info on that. More specs to come soon. ^LB

— Xbox Support 2 (@XboxSupport2) June 16, 2013

Given the utter confusion being created as to whether one could pick up an Xbox One in one country and use it in another (despite the information already being available that it is region-locked), and the utter lack of information on the Family Policy and sharing a single Gold account on multiple consoles, is Xbox Support simply in the dark, or incompetent? Stay tuned for more.
