Look! It's fast now!

This new video posted by CVG shows us more of the PlayStation 4’s elusive UI; whereas we have seen a lot of it for the Xbox One (and it looks great, incidentally), we haven’t seen as much of the PS4 UI. Now, devkit footage shows us just a little bit of the PlayStation 4’s menu: dubbed PlayStation Dynamic Menu, the new interface is a successor to the XMB, and you can sort of see that in the horizontal organization of information that it favors.

It also seems to be pretty fast, with none of the lag or loading times that were associated with the PS3 interface (especially as the generation went on, and more and more got added to the console) plaguing it, at least not just yet. It looks like it combines form and function together, and it should be interesting to see how it evolves over the next few years.

The PlayStation 4 launches November 15, 2013.

A brand new user interface for the PS4

Fergal Gara, the head of Sony Computer Entertainment UK stated that the user interface of the upcoming PS4 will vastly outshine the PS3’s cross media bar. In an interview with Digital Spy, Gara stated that the cross media bar, or XMB, is no longer fresh and appealing. They are going for something more contemporary moving forward.

In a statement at Gamescom, Gara had this to say:

“My personal view is that the Cross Media Bar has well outlived its… it doesn’t look new, fresh, contemporary any more. It’s not really up to the demands of, particularly, the vision of the PS4, and therefore showing we have absolutely made a quantum leap in terms of our user interface and those design principles of PS4, and demonstrating them live on stage last night, for me, that was a really, really exciting way to start the show. Immediate jumping in and out of games, initiating multiplayer sessions, seeing what your friends are up to – all of that felt slick, quick and intuitive.”

The PS4 user interface was demonstrated earlier today at Gamescom 2013.

The movie rental service LOVEFilm is making its way to the PS3.

The decision was announced by a video on Youtube on the official PS3 channel, but it has since been removed.

The service that will be made accessible via the XMB will be able to stream ‘thousands’ of movies direct to your console, including DVD’s and Blu-rays.

Existing members will be able to start streaming instantly.

The move will come as a huge boost for many UK PS3 owners, who have only been able to look on jealously while the US PS3’s have access to Netflix, another streaming site.

The service could be arriving as early as next month.

Thanks, VG247.
