Dreadnought, a new 5v5 spaceship shooter from Yager, the guys who brought us the excellent expectation defying Spec Ops: The Line, will be entering closed beta this week. You can ensure that you get access to the closed beta by buying either of two founder’s packs.

The cheaper of these options is the Hunter pack. The Hunter Pack is priced $9.99/ £6.99 / €9.99, and it gets you 500 in-game points for use on cosmetics, an XP boost for seven days, and an exclusive ship decal, emblem, and coating. It also gets you the medium Dreadnought hero ship the Morningstar, as well as two Fleet Recruitment Packs, which is just a fancy way of saying you get to invite two of your friends to the beta too.

You can alternatively splurge $39.99/ £27.99 / €39.99 on the Mercenary Pack, which comes with comes with five hero ships, including the Morningstar, 3,000 in-game points, exclusive decals, and a 30-day XP boost. It also comes with invitations for four friends to the closed beta.

If you would rather not spend any money, you can just register for the closed beta, though you should keep in mind that doing so does not guarantee that you will get in.

Whoa.

We’ve suspected Dead Island 2 is in trouble for a while now, ever since it was quietly pushed into 2016, and we stopped hearing, well, anything about it, and it appears we weren’t off the mark- where there is smoke, there is fire, after all, and today, Dead Island series publisher Deep Silver announced that Yager, who had been taken on board to develop the game, have now been dropped from the project.

“With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve,” Deep Silver said. “After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner Yager. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.”

Things must have been in pretty bad shape for the developer to be dropped entirely, so late into the project. I wonder what happened in this game’s development.

As of right now, Dead Island 2 is slated to come out some time in 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
