Tales of Arise Developer Has No Plans for a Switch Version

Producer Yusuke Tomizawa says the upcoming action RPG is only targeting the platforms it has already been officially announced for.

The Nintendo Switch as a platform is very well suited to JRPGs, but one of the biggest upcoming games in the genre – Bandai Namco’s Tales of Arise – isn’t announced for Nintendo’s hybrid platform. Is it possible, however, that the action RPG will eventually end up coming to the Switch? Perhaps as a cloud-exclusive release, which is an approach that quite a few games seem to be taking- from Hitman 3 earlier this year to upcoming games like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Well, it doesn’t seem like Bandai Namco has any such plans. We recently had the chance to speak with series producer Yusuke Tomizawa about Tales of Arise, and when asked about a possible Switch version, he told us that Bandai Namco has no such plans. “The consoles we have announced are the only ones we have planned for the game,” Tomizawa said.

Could those plans eventually end up changing? It’s possible, sure, but it doesn’t seem like Bandai Namco’s planning on that right now. So if you’re a Switch player hoping to play Tales of Arise on your platform of choice, it might be best to recalibrate your expectations.

When Tales of Arise does launch on September 10, it will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. PlayStation and Xbox players can try out free demo starting tomorrow. Our full interview with Tomizawa will be live soon, so stay tuned for that.
