PlatinumGames, known for its work on fast-paced action games like NieR: Automata and Bayonetta, has announced that it is now working on a new action game adaptation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story, The Last Ronin. Interestingly, a game based on The Last Ronin had seemingly been in the works for a while and was originally announced all the way back in 2023 by THQ Nordic. PlatinumGames announced its own project with a trailer, which you can check out below.
The story will presumably be based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin comic mini-series that was published between 2020 and 2022. The plot of the comics was set in a dark future timeline where New York City was successfully taken over by the Foot Clan. Only a single Ninja Turtle survived the battles – the eponymous Last Ronin – who has decided to avenge the death of his brothers by taking down the grandson of Shredder.
The trailer released by PlatinumGames didn’t really reveal any details about whether its adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin will adapt the same story, or of it will tell a new one with the same setting and characters. There also wasn’t any gameplay showcased throughout the trailer. However, considering the fact that the studio made a big deal about having worked on critically-acclaimed fast-paced action games, like last year’s Ninja Gaiden 4, we can safely assume that this title will also feature similar gameplay.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is being published by Paramount Game Studios, and there has been no confirmation about a release window or its target platforms.
