Last year was a record for the Tokyo Game Show, as 270,197 people showed up to attend the premier Japanese game show. This year, the turnout was a little lower- 251,832 people, so nearly 20,000 less- but it is still the second highest number of people TGS has ever seen.
This is actually a bit sad, because while last year’s TGS was a disappointment (like TGS has been for the last four or so years) focusing solely on smartphone games, with little to no emphasis on premier console or handheld flagship games, this year’s TGS was petty damn amazing, with a high amount of high end Japanese content for handhelds and consoles announced.
Still, though, 250,000 people is certainly nothing to sneeze at, and TGS itself this year paints a brighter picture for the future of the Japanese industry than one would have predicted just a few weeks ago.
We also finally have the dates and venue for next year’s TGS- September 17-20 (Thursday through Sunday), 2015 at the Makuhari Messe convention center. We’ll be there, covering it, so stay tuned.
