Nightdive Studios has endeared itself to a sizeable audience over the years with its knack of developing excellent remasters of classic shooters, but in 2023 in particular, the studio has been on an absolute roll. So far this year, Nightdive has delivered a remake of System Shock and remaster of Quake 2, while remasters of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion and Star Wars: Dark Forces have also been announced. Though it seems there’s yet more in the works beyond that.
Nightdive Studios also seems to be working on a remaster of The Darkness, the acclaimed 2007 first person shooter that was developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by 2K. The same was seemingly confirmed by Nightdive’s CEO, Stephen Kick, who responded to a Twitter post asking for a remaster of The Darkness with a message that simply said, “It’s on the list.”
Of course, that’s not exactly an official announcement, so it remains to be seen how far along the remaster is at this point or how long it’ll be before it releases- but fans of the original can, at the very least rest assured with the knowledge that a remaster is indeed coming in the not-too-distant future.
