This isn't hard. Seriously.

Give all companions the ability to take all of your Junk and run it home for you. You lose access to your companion for a set time while you can keep scavenging. It wastes none of your time but makes encumberance meaningful.

Forcing you to return to a shop or your storage box has little or no in-game disadvantages (outside hardcore mode) and thus making it a time sink in normal mode.

What I'm also saying is don't change it for hardcore mode. If you want to feel hardcore, play that mode.

Better yet make it a QTE style interactive movie like The Order 1886

' It's just more gamer friendly'

Depends on how you define gamers. If you mean casual kids playing on consoles, then yes.

Rather than removing encumbrance, how about giving you the option of having carriages to haul the goods you find while exploring? To me, that seems like a great compromise.

Also, I would LOVE to have the ability to sell houses you don't need. I had a ton of houses in Skyrim, but I only need one at any given point in time.

I don't think removing encumbrance is oversimplification in a game that let's you instantly travel to any previously discovered location as much as you want. Particularly in a game which often drops a ton of heavy items on you at once. I think it actually limits gameplay opportunities and encourages simplistic strategies.

In all honesty, encumbrance is only an issue at the very start of the game. By the time you get into it, you'll have loads of stamina for running which give you tons of carry weight, and perks to increase your carry weight as well.

You might as well have unlimited carry weight when its so easy to push it over 500-600.

Hmm would be a bad idee i think, games are about making decisions, you need these for gameplay, though sometimes it's frustrating I like the encumbrance feature, pretty sure that if it wasn't there you would just ended filling your inventory with endless amounts of crap, picking up a item now Mather's it's a small thing to consider before hitting that button, relationship between weight and value, one item cheaper then the other but per kg value might be higher, it's a important feature I'd say. I would say it could be balanced a bit better maybe , or some more ways to expand your inventory like some of the bag mods allow build into the game with their own advantages and drawbacks
