The upcoming The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III could very well be a PlayStation 4 exclusive, if an interview with Falcom president and CEO Toshihiro Kondo with Dengeki PlayStation (via Gematsu) is to be believed. Speaking to Dengeki, Kondo noted that while the Vita has more Trails fans, talks about making the new game PS4 exclusive are not off the table- yet.
“Right now work is heavily underway,” Kondo said. “We plan to start going at full scale this summer, but we’ve already completed the basic foundation. We’re also making new models for Rean and company. However, for those concerned about hardware, there are a lot of PS Vita users when it comes to the Trails series. We’re currently considering whether to do a PlayStation 4-exclusive or to make it cross-platform with PS Vita.”
At this point, PlayStation 4 exclusive games simply don’t sell as well in Japan, so for a series as tailored to local sales as Trails is, a move only to the PlayStation 4 would not make as much sense. Chances are, the new game will still get a Vita version of some sort.
