The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Icon Unearthed in Wii U eShop

Is the Gamecube/Wii classic re-releasing on Wii U?

In what might be very good news for Zelda fans, it seems as though the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess may be bound for a re-release on Wii U in some capacity. The game, which originally released on the Gamecube and Wii in 2006, is considered to be a modern classic, and one of the greatest games ever made, blending together open world design with some of the best level design in history. It became the highest selling Zelda game of all time.

Unfortunately, that happened because the game ditched the striking cel shaded look that marked its predecessor, The Wind Waker, and went with a more realistic look instead. Since the game had been built for the Gamecube, it now looks very outdated, even though it still plays fine. A remake on the Wii U in the vein of the excellent Wind Waker HD would go a long way to alleviate that, and that is what might be happening- a hacker by the name of NWPlayer123/Octogirl claims to have unearthed an icon for Twilight Princess in the Wii U eShop.

Of course, it is entirely possible that this is just a Wii Virtual Console release, like Super Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime Trilogy were earlier this year- in which case the graphics would not be cleaned up.

Whatever it is, though, Twilight Princess was great, and a chance to play through it again would be pretty awesome. I’ll eagerly look forward to more news on this.
