The Nintendo 3DS Hits 15 Million Units Sold in the US

It is the eighth Nintendo system to do so.

The Nintendo 3DS may not be tracking as well worldwide as the unstoppable Nintendo DS did, but it’s still doing pretty damn well for itself. The last we heard, it had sold in excess of 52 million units worldwide- today, we learned that 15 million of those come from the US alone.

“While crossing 15 million units is certainly a significant milestone, we are equally excited about the new momentum we’ve created in 2015 thanks to new hardware and an unrivaled library of software,” said Scott Moffitt, NoA’s EVP of sales and marketing in a prepared statement. “With more great games on the way and a hardware system for every type of gamer, 2015 is shaping up to be one of the stronger years yet for Nintendo 3DS in the United States.”

In addition to this, Moffitt also named the 3DS games that have sold more than 2 million in the US- these include  Super Mario 3D Land, Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, Mario Kart 7 and Super Smash Bros.

The 3DS is the eighth Nintendo system ever to have reached the 15 million units in the US milestone- the previous systems were the NES, the SNES, the N64, the Gameboy, the Gameboy Advance, the Nintendo DS, and the Wii.
