It does, but there is no reference which proves that the fact is true. Just claiming that it is like this, is not enough to convince me, yet. But on the contrary I think that the NX “if it is as similar a console as today’s consoles” and only then – it has to sell well. Because the business model requires it. Otherwise there is no money to be made. And what we can see from the new Miitomo app and My Nintendo, obviously Nintendo tries to use similar schemes as do Microsoft and Sony with incentives for gamers.

The article is referring to the pace of sales, more than it is referring to the overall install base (though sure, you can extend it to include install base, too)

But yes, sales are not everything, ask Apple with its iPhone. There’s a plethora of Android devices out there but Apple makes way more profit.
