DICE and EA might be releasing Star Wars Battlefront 2 this year, but the original Star Wars Battlefront 2, which launched all the way back in 2005, is the game that many Star Wars fans still swear by. Considered to be the definitive Star Wars multiplayer action game, it was stuffed to the brim with content and modes, and has yet to be topped.
It was exceptionally sad when its online play was finally retired a few years ago, thanks to Gamespy, the service it used for online play, going dark. However, it looks like the good folks at GoG have been working behind the scenes with Disney, and the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 will have its online play restored- not only that, but the online play will be added back into the versions sold via Steam in addition to GoG. The GoG and Steam versions of the game will have cross platform play, as well.
This is incredible news (though I can’t imagine EA is too happy about it). If, however, you would rather play the new Battlefront 2, it launches this November for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
