Chie Satonaka is probably the most popular character from Atlus’ Persona 4 (and by extension, probably from the entire Persona series). She has a fierce fan following, and people absolutely love her. So at first glance, it might not seem strange to see a vocal faction wanting her inclusion in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U via the Smash Ballot, the site that invites fan votes for future inclusion in the game’s roster.
But then you consider that Persona is a niche franchise, in spite of its massive popularity, and that outside of the recent Persona Q, it has always been a PlayStation exclusive, with no Nintendo appearances, and you start to give up on the dream, right?
Well, don’t give it up yet! It seems Erin Fritzgerald, who is the voice of the beloved Chie Satonaka herself, has spoken out in support of the idea. In an interview with former IGN PlayStation Editor Greg Miller on the Kinda Funny Games program.
‘I would love for Chie to make it into Smash Bros.,’ she said. ‘That would be brilliant. But I don’t know if that will ever happen.’
Of course, as Greg Miller pointed out, it’s not unlikely- Atlus and Nintendo share a very close relationship, and Atlus is owned by Sega, who also shares a very close relationship with Nintendo. All of this, coupled with the fact that the Smash Ballot is now a thing, makes a Chie appearance in Smash that much more likely.
Personally, I have been going back and forth on voting for her in the Ballot for a while now, but now that I know that the idea has officially been floated, I’m going to go ahead and vote for her. I would love to see her in the game.
