You are a great read Paul. But again, for people like me who've been gaming over some 40 odd years(I'm old), the games I'm playing are good enough.

Not a developer, but I don't need to be, it's not like this is all happening in some fairy realm where the numbers don't have to add up as long as you believe hard enough- the PS4 is a computer with a certain amount of capability to do math, PUBLISHED capabilities mind you, and VR just plain requires more math than standard display.

I'm not making any crazy accusations, we've seen what the hardware is capable of, and NOT capable of, in different games based on the visual quality, and looking at that compared to the stated requirements of the PSVR for framerate and resolution. Again, you can't compromise on those at all. Especially since with the doubling effect the breakout box does, every dropped frame would be two in a row, and everyone in the VR space notes that is how you get nausea in most people. I'm sure you can do that with the base PS4, but only by dramatically decreasing the graphical quality compared to the games people are used to playing on the system via their TV, you have to go back a couple years in terms of quality in order to get the raw performance.

Basically, TANSTAAFL. There is no such thing as a free lunch, there is no way in you can honestly tell me that somehow the PSVR is consistently getting a very literal doubling of *best case* performance from the PS4, for each frame, then doubling it again using some sort of magic box, and not having to cut somewhere. The PS4 was good hardware when it first came out, but it is NOT as capable as a GTX 960 which is the minimum requirement for the Rift- so it shouldn't be confusing when the cheaper, older hardware in the PS4 can't do the same job. You paid less for the PS4 in it's entirety than the graphics cards alone cost to run the PC headsets, and an entire generation of cards before- how on earth could you wind up with the same results?

I actually would agree that the PSVR is the top contender, but only if people actually go out and get the refreshed PS4 which has a sensibly powerful graphics card to fuel the requirements of a modern game being displayed in VR. If you insist on not doing so, the games are just plain not going to look as good as if you had- and more importantly, the situation is NOT going to get better. The PS4 has been out long enough that I don't think developers are going to discover any new optimization, and they're already going to be taking the system to the absolute, no spare room limits on PSVRs launch titles. The refresh WILL NOT enable them to keep up with a current gaming PC, it's got the equivalent of a mid-tier PC under the hood, but it will at least allow them to run games as pretty as you're already used to.

While I do respect your opinion, I think it is mostly an assumption from an outsider looking in, and the real truth about what is possible with the PSVR headset, and the base PS4 hardware, remains to be seen. These are the early days. Are you a developer working with the hardware Paul Epstein? If so, please forgive my ignorance. No disrespect intended, but I'm sure most people like myself who own both pieces of hardware will be completely happy with what they are able to achieve. I think for the most part, we kinda knew what we were buying before we dropped that $400, and that Resident Evil "kitchen demo" made us believers in what the PSVR and base PS4 could do. Thanks anyway.

He's being ridiculous, but I would like to point out that you don't actually develop games for a particular headset like you do for a console. They're combination displays and input devices, like a monitor and mouse, as long as you're sending the right frames out and getting the motion detection input they'll work correctly on all headsets. I do think a lot of PSVR users without the refreshed PS4 will be disappointed with the experience, between the two perspectives, the per eye framerate, and the resolution, just being in VR is asking a lot more from the hardware than 60fps and HD resolution. Worse than that, there is no wiggle room at all without ruining someone's experience, if the game slips too low in resolution there's an obvious screendoor, and too low a framerate and you're going to get a lot of people puking. With the non-refreshed PS4, they're going to have to cut features with a chainsaw just to keep the minimums flowing.

LOL. Hilariousness! Who said anything about this game being made specifically for the Scorpio, or the Rift?

PSVR already has the larger user base than both, right now. Failure huh? Wake up son. You're in so much denial right now that it is downright hilarious watching how you reacted to this news. PSVR is about to blow up and as more devs start cashing in, porting their games to VR, guys like you don't seem very happy about it at all. Wonderful.
