Trion Worlds Shuts San Diego Branch, Defiance Operations Shifted to Redwood

Closure happens on same day that RIFT executive producer Scott Hartsman becomes CEO.

Defiance developer Trion Worlds has shut down its San Diego studio recently, with development and day to day operations being shifted to the home Redwood City office.

“We can confirm that the San Diego studio will be closing. The day to day operations of Defiance will be moved to our Redwood City studio where it can be managed alongside Rift and our other in development titles including ArcheAge and End of Nations.

“As part of this transition, we are working hard to ensure that a number of great people will be making the move from San Diego to the Bay Area and continue their work at Trion.”

This is hardly surprising considering that Trion Worlds recently laid off several employees earlier this year, many of them working on Trion’s other free to play title RIFT. The closure of the San Diego branch happened on the same that former CCO and executive producer for RIFT Scott Hartsman was appointed to the post of CEO.
