Ubisoft and New Regency, who announce in October that they will be partnering on the silver screen adaptation of the former’s super successful video game franchise, Assassin’s Creed, have announced that they have hired a scriptwriter for the film which is tentatively planned for a 2014 release.
Up and coming talented British theatre writer Michael Lesslie has signed on to write the script for Assassin’s Creed, Hollywood Reporter reports.
Lesslie doesn’t have any silver screen scripts to his name, but he’s been known for great English plays. Hollywood Reporter mentions that Lesslie wrote the play, Prince of Denmark, which was performed at the National Theatre last year.
He has also worked on a number of short films.
Assassin’s Creed is being co-produced by Michael Fassbender, who will also star in the movie, and the film is supposed to be the start of an entire franchise. Considering Ubisoft haven’t hired a big name to pen the project and have gone with an actual talent, it looks like they might be really serious about this project.
Stay tuned for more updates.
