Ubisoft: Nintendo Will Recapture Lapsed Wii Players With NX

This could be a good thing or a bad thing...

What exactly is the NX? We don’t know. What are Nintendo trying to do with it? We don’t know. What is it going to be like? We don’t know. We know nothing about the NX, beyond the fact that it exists. What we can see, however, is that a lot of people, people in the know – third parties, analysts, insiders – are excited for the product. It makes it clear that whatever Nintendo is working on warrants being excited over.

Two days ago, Ubisoft became the first western third party publisher to openly pledge support for the NX when they announced Just Dance for it. Today, they spoke about their excitement for the NX, and what they expect it to do, adding that they are working closely with Nintendo on the console.

“We have always appreciated the relationship with Nintendo, the co-creation and the fact that they are really concentrating on quality – they have fantastic brands,” Ubisoft’s Alain Corre told MCV at Ubisoft’s E3 booth in Los Angeles.

“And they are addressing the family market in a very different way, their own way, which we appreciate. We have done a lot of products and successes with Nintendo in the past, and we believe that the NX will recapture a lot of the lapsed Wii players. So we will see when they release it, but we are confident.”

Lapsed Wii players could mean one of two things- either the insane base of casual gamers that Nintendo had with the Wii, or the core players who bought the Wii, and lost faith in them afterwards. It could also just be referring to both those demographics- that would actually be for the best.

Which is it? Again, we don’t know. And we won’t know until Nintendo finally take the wraps off of the NX, which they are due to some time later this year.
