How can someone say downgrade when you the graphical fidelity is near the
same? Have you seen the comparison between the original Nate character
model and the Sam character model shown in the gameplay? There's no difference. So if the same amount of detail is visibly present on Sam, the logic would dictate that the Nate build has the same amount of detail. The only difference between E3 and the gameplay is the amount of detail of the foliage, not character models.

People who are saying other wise are confusing the lighting with a
downgrade. Read the new issue of Edge and you'll see that the graphical
fidelity has stayed the same. You can also watch the PlayStation
Experience, and, furthermore, Naughty Dog has already confirmed that it
was not, in fact, downgraded. They've also said that they'd rather have
the game running at 30fps rather than to downgrade the fidelity in favor
of 60fps. If you read/watch the sources I've mentioned, which are linked
below, you'll see that there was never a downgrade. That doesn't mean
that there won't be one in the future, but from what I've read and seen,
there isn't a difference other than the foliage and time of day.

Below there is also a comparison between the Sam character model, and the E3 Nathan model. Notice both have their features highlighted and appear to be wet––Nathan with water, Sam with sweat. There is still the same amount of fidelity
present in the Sam model. This means that the Nathan Drake model retains all of the detail as the E3 build, however, those fine details are harder to notice. Some of the reasons for Sam looking better are because 1) he's in direct sunlight, which makes it easier to see wrinkles and imperfections, etc., 2) he's glistening with sweat, so pores are highlighted, 3) he's closer to the screen, making giving more information for the eyes to take in, and 4) they art directed the lighting to highlight his features, which shows us more texture.

The screenshot of Sam that I provided was taken while I watched the uncompressed version of the demo. I did this because it was better quality than the one on this website.

Links confirming that there's no downgrade:

wow cause you know how to develop games don't cha? Did you know that BF4 on next gen wasn't running so well just a few months before release and when it was shipped it ran almost 60 fps the whole time (now with the updates it runs @ 60 99% of the time)
Unity was poorly optimized but one of the developers said that they work on the framerate just a few months before release. A lot can change in a year and if anyone can pull it off, its ND. BTW its ALREADY 30 fps solid. IN PRE ALPHA.
They could be having the game running @ 50 fps but didn't want the judder so they capped it @ 30.
We don't work @ ND so we'll just have to wait and see.

The target of 60 is a no hope at this point honestly. Because they've only hit 30fps and are a year from release, its a sure bet they'll aim for a solid 30, which is fine except for the fact they gave alot of people false hope for 60fps and a fidelity benchmark that still won't be reached by either console for atleast another two years. That's a little off track though.
