Earlier today at Steam Dev Days, a developer-only convention hosted by Valve in Seattle, it was announced via Twitter that, as the progress forward with the production of the Steam Box, Valve intends to do away with the controversial Greenlight system that currently exists on Steam.
Dave Oshry, who attended the event, released a series of Tweets regarding Valve’s feelings on Greenlight, the future of Steam Machines, and the current state of Steam itself: “Our goal is to make Greenlight go away. Not because it’s not useful, but because we’re evolving.”
As for the Steam Machines, the overall goal is still openness rather than constricting people to a single place. “Our goal with Steam Machines has never been to force customers into the living room if they don’t want to go.” It was also reported that Steam 75 million active users recently.
