Following its sudden leak on social media, Sega officially announced Virtua Fighter Crossroads at Summer Game Fest. Releasing in 2027, this is the previously untitled New Virtua Fighter Project developed by RGG Studio and sporting some extremely slick visuals. In this new trailer, we get a better look at the story.
It takes place in a brand-new city where fighters of all kinds have gathered for competition. Of course, they also have their own issues – one has seemingly had problems with the Chinese mafia and is on the run, leading to restaurant battles. However, it’s not long before he’s saved by an older Pai Chan, a veteran fighter from previous titles.
Judging by her analysis, she may take him under her wing and offer more guidance in the world of kung fu. Certainly a more cinematic-heavy approach than we expected from Virtua Fighter, but it’s not half-bad. Now the question is how other classic characters fit into all this.
While platforms and the like have yet to be announced, it seems that RGG Studio will be revealing more in the Virtua Fighter Crossroads Showcase at 5 PM PDT, immediately following Summer Game Fest. Stay tuned for all the latest details, from how the gameplay has evolved to what this new setting has to offer.
