War Thunder Dev: PS4’s GPU is 40 Percent More Powerful Than Xbox One

Shocking, we know.

War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment, which will be bringing the upcoming online free to play military simulation to PlayStation 4, recently revealed in an interview with EDGE that the PlayStation 4 is – no joke – more powerful than the Xbox One.

“Obviously PlayStation 4 is more powerful than Xbox One,” according to Anton Yudintsev, who also provided some hard figures to go with the justification. “It depends what you’re doing. GPU, like 40 per cent more powerful. DDR5 is basically 50 per cent more powerful than DDR3, but the memory write is bigger on Xbox One so it depends on what you’re doing.”

Microsoft has revealed that it slightly increased the GPU clock speed by 6 percent, for all the difference it makes. However, other developers have revealed that as of now, both consoles have a similar architecture and most games that will come out in the first year or so won’t be much different visually. As was the case with the previous generation, it’ll take some time before the potential of both consoles is fully realized.
